So my mentor is getting married. He and his fiancee haven't set a date since she wants to finish making her dress first. Ultra fancy 14 century French dress in sapphire blue with a cream cloak with the sleeves trimmed in squirrel fur. Completely irrelevant to this discussion but I'm impressed as all hell since she's hand sewing it and well it gives context to the crazy I'm debating.
I'm making them an afghan. This in and of itself isn't crazy. Blankets are pretty easy when you get right down to it, it's a giant rectangle. This isn't the ambitious part.
I'm making a kingsized afghan. Slightly more difficult since it's farking huge. Still not the ambitious part.
I'm making a kingsized afghan in the yggdrasil pattern. If you haven't seen it it's 4 trees in the center done in cables with roots and branches entwined in celtic knot work. With 4 borders alternating between celtic knot cables and lace. It'll be 72 inches squared once it's done. Guess what? Still not the ambitious part.
I'm debating spinning the yarn for it. As in making every step of this blanket from sheep to bed spread. In an unknown time frame. A friend lent me a spinning wheel (I normally use a spindle) and it's giving me all sorts of ideas about my possible output.
Someone really ought to tell me no, since my friends are all this level of crafty crazy and are unhelpful in tempering ideas like this.
