Kara, I want to join in the chorus of telling you how brave and wonderful and amazing you are.
I went through similar issues with my mom when I told her I no longer believed in the God that she raised me to believe in. Plus I got the "Where did I go wrong!?" line. She still loves me, though, and that's the most important thing. We don't talk about religion any more, but we still talk.
I hope things mellow with your mom, like they did with mine. I know it won't be as simple to avoid talking about it with your mom like it was with mine - your change isn't just a philosophical one - but your mom is still talking to you, and that's a good sign.
I wish you the best of everything in your transition and in your life. I'll be here for moral support. (I can't offer much else, but at least I can offer that.
)

it’s probably too musky/heavy for me, especially in summer… but eh.

I can't enjoy most of them, so you can have my share.
