The tub was more of a joke, sorry. They say to do that to have water to flush. And to see if the cats will swim....

Gas tank because I was on 1/2 full and the stations may be crazy today.

Gloria knocked out power for a week. I fully believe that Irene will be a Floyd, and I will have power on Monday. But just in case. Not to mention, I had to grocery shop anyway. New England (CT) does indeed get 'canes, and the smaller ones can pack a punch here. Trust me, I know hurricanes.

"They" are still calling for her to be a Cat 1. I disagree, but it is better to be ready. Expect Floyd, prepare for Gloria. Screw the crowds.

As of this post, she is a "strong" Cat 2. I'm not sure if she'll strength...if she goes east, maybe. West, no way.

Edit: Sorry Seraph, didn't mean to derail. That reall suck about the vacation and no refund. You look forward to somethng, and then, *poop*, weather.

Batteries....here's a tip I learned (from some guy on the radio!! Honest!!) last time we had a power outage. If you can't find batteries in the hardware store or supermarket, etc., try your local naughty book/DVD/adult toy store. They sell batteries...

Well, your death glares are working - she's weakening. At 8PM she was a Cat2 with winds at 100MpH and they expect her to be a Cat 1 at landfall (near Morehead City, NC at about 8am tomorrow morning).

Second landfall around Germantown, NC. (2PM tomorrow afternoon)

Third Landfall near Old Trap, NC. (5-6PM tomorrow night).

Then just a few miles east of the VA, MD, DE, and NJ coast.

Not sure of the next landfall but she will be *VERY* close to the NJ shre especially from Atlantic City to Brick.

Current track puts landfall around Long Beach, NY, then across the bay and into New Haven, CT.

Centered over Hartford, CT as a tropical storm Sunday afternoon, across MA and NH (clipping VT) - leaving Maine Sunday night (and heading into Canada as a tropical storm).

NOAA's next full update is at 11PM tonight (about 2 hours, 20 minutes).

                  I'd tub it for a Cat2+

Our governor was talking about shutting down the Merritt on Sunday night. My best way into work.

Happy I hike a lot, most of my prep was my hiking gear.

The news reports are getting scary. Everybody along the coast, I hope you're all in a safe place. I'll pray that Irene wimps out and doesn't do half of what they're warning about.

I'm in Pennsylvania and I'm expecting the usual from a hurricane - shitloads of rain, heavy winds, and the electricity going out. So that means I will be charging my MP3 player, cell phone and my Nintendo DS ASAP so I can have something to entertain myself with when the power's gone.

My cousin and one of my friends is in NJ...I sure hope they'll be alright.

And we don't got no government batteries here - we gots candles!

But everyone whose in the coastal states/towns, please be careful. I hope everyone is able to stay safe, whether that means toughing out the storm at home or leaving for a bit.

An Ode to New England Storm Preparation

                        Good old Glor-i-ay...
Took out the trees in '85, knocked power out for thirteen days
So we pulled out games, Monopoly and Parcheesi
And we stayed not afraid, now I must say more than ever
Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye aye
I'm gonna sleep downstairs this weekend

Come on Irene, Oh I swear (what I mean)
Is I'm ready, so tear up the trees
Got water in tanks, withdrew cash from the banks
So I'm ready, come on, Irene

                        These people 'round here
Seen blizzards paralyze the state, and a perfect storm brought waves in
But hurricanes don't last in Maine
                        Water's just too cold here
Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye aye
You're not the worstest storm we've seen here

Come on, Irene, oh I swear (Coz we've seen)
Bob and Edna, so come on, Irene
Filled the car up with gas
                        So I've covered my ass
Charged the flashlights, so come on, Irene...

                        Irene, come on, we're ready
Hey, Irene, come on and get me
Now you're Cat One, tropical storm
                        Irene, been here since '72
Irene, it'll take more than you
Now you have grown, soon you'll be gone
                        But I'll still be here
Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye aye

Come on, Irene, coz I've seen (Irene)
On the broadcast, you'll hit N.Y.C.
                        You might say (it's insane)
                        Taunting a hurricane
But I'm ready, so come on, Irene...

                        --

On an unrelated note, if the hurricane brings down that poor half-dead tree in the yard, I won't be a bit sad. Addendum: If it crashes down through the roof I will be very sad. Dear Irene: Please push it the other way. Preferably on the neighbors. Then they'll have to move and take those two fucking yappy dogs with them.

On an additional unrelated note, I will never attempt to parody this song again.

She's a Cat1 now but her pressure is still very low (even for a Cat2-3) so she's not going to weaken much over time unless people are very lucky. She's less than a mile away from Morehead City moving NNE so it looks like the outerbanks are going to get a direct hit.

They're worried about New England and Long Island - they'll be in the strongest part of the storm and the way she's going she's going to push all the water that's above and below Long Island right into the boros.

.. and outerband just went over Long Island and heading into CT and RI.

Jester, if you're on a well, filling the tub when you expect a power outage is par for the course. Growing up, we filled the big pots and the tub whenever we expected a big storm (including ice). No power on a well=no water.

I'm just kinda ing about the continued panic in the media about Irene. A cat 1? Pshaw. Hey east coast--stop stealing Texas's hurricanes--we need the rain, and a cat 1 is just a longer thunderstorm. I'm certainly not saying that because I want to avoid driving back home for school on Monday or anything.
