I worked mall security during the time of the Aurora theater shooting. Our mall also had a theater and we had an upswing in people attempting to open carry on the property. We'd quietly approach and make it clear that they were welcome to come to our mall but we were asking that they leave the gun at home or in the car; it was not a new policy (signs were up everywhere with mall policy), just one we'd never really had to enforce before. First they'd bitch it was public property and we had to explain that it was privately owned and open to the public as long as you followed the rules. They then bitched "I have a conceal carry permit so I'm exempt!" Umm, If you have a permit, why are you open carrying then? I myself have a carry permit and personally, if I could not SEE that they were carrying, we wouldn't have had to have the conversation (one guy had a tight under-armor shirt with a harness on underneath and the outline of his pistol was clearly visible, nothing left to the imagination!). We then noticed they were quietly filming with their phones as we talked to them, so we were nothing but professional and polite
. One guy complained about his 'treatment' on some forum that one of my coworkers is also a member of! He got shut down real quick by other people pointing out that if he could conceal carry, do it!

Yea even on gun sites that one gets lively. That's why I left it at that.
FWIK, the M16/M4 is the military designation but the name of the platform is still the AR-15.
I was referring more to the open vs closed carry thing, and just heading things off at the pass.
