  • Minor SC-ness?

I'm at the local Wally World, picking up some new deodorant I had a coupon for along with a couple other items. I get to the lane, lady there scans most of my stuff, but when she gets to the deodorant there's no bar code there.

I run back to the aisle I had found it in, only to discover somebody split up all of their double-packs and put them in the singles slots. It took me five minutes to find the one I needed with a bar code on it.

By the time I get back there, all the customers in the lane (except one who understood) plus the 50+ year-old cashier are giving me the cat-butt face. I hand over the deodorant, she scans it, finishes the order, I leave.

I hope I wasn't an SC...I mean that whole row of deodorant was all the codeless double packs units except for the one I found. I have no clue whether it was an employee or another customer. I realise I could've gone with another brand and saved half the trouble, but it's one of the few brands that actually works, plus it was a $1 coupon.

I don't think you were an SC at all. I think she is the one who should have gotten an employee get the bar code. You shouldn't have had to go look for it yourself.

I'm surprised she didn't get an employee to get the barcode either.... normally, from my experience, they tell the customer (even if the customer goes to leave) that they'll get an employee to look for it.

I don't think you were an SC either. But I agree, the cashier should have tried to get another employee to get it for you.

I also had an item without a barcode at the register of my local Walmart once, and the cashier told me to go back and get another of the item. I also remember that my cashier had to ask another employee what to do in the situation - I think she was new at the job - so there definitely was another employee who could have gotten another of the item.

Could someone who has worked at Walmart on the forum explain if that is a normal occurrence, or if it only happens say if the other employees in the front are busy? I just find it odd because at my store, if an item doesn't have a barcode, you get another employee to get it for you, and I thought that was the norm. *shrugs*

In fact, the cashier should've explained to the others in line why they had to wait ... it's not YOUR fault that some utter moron split up all the packs.

            Okay, phew then. ^^;

I did also try telling someone at the front end about the sticks being codeless, but it fell on deaf ears.

not sucky, the cashier may have thought you were because you were gone so long, but it wasn't your fault

I work outside, so I could be wrong, but I think they usually have the CSMs handle that situation

Call the 1-800# for the company-report the store-they are selling items from a multi pack as individuals-in effect stealing from the manufacturer-they will send someone to the store to check.

store orders 15 multi packs pays x price sells for y price makes z profit-orders more
store orders 15 multi packs pays x price sells as 30 individual items makes q profit and orders less from manufacturer.

to put it in clearer terms:
store orders 24 single cans of soda for 0.50 per can from distributor-sells for 0.75 profit of 0.25 per can
Store orders case of soda for $3 is supposed to sell for $5 for $2 profit-instead sells as individual cans at 0.75

Store makes $4 profit and distributor loses $9 profit-this is why most multi-pacs state "this unit not labeled for individual sale"-some even have the added "if you have purchased this item as an individual unit please call 1-800-xxx-xxxx" They are stealing from both the customer and the distributor/manufacturer-which causes prices to go up.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

As a cashier at Wally World, I just want to take a moment to say that whenever this happens I always say "Well, we're going to send someone back to get another one for you, or if you like you can run back" just because it can take so long to get a CSM over to you, and because normally people I run into would rather run back because they know exactly where they got it. If she didn't offer to have someone run back, that was rather sucky of her.

And really, they split up the double packs? That takes a special kind of moron, and I hope the store isn't trying to extract a profit, that will end badly.

If we ever have to wait for a customer to grab something at Fred Meyers (we usually have an employee do that), if it's at the end of their transaction we'll just suspend it and bring it back up when they get back. That way me and other customers aren't just standing around.
