I have GOT to stop looking at this thread.

For me, it's almost totally random. It's usually the very last song I heard, be it on the radio, TV, or even a commercial jingle. God forbid I actually see a Vonage commercial without muting the sound. I'll have that stupid yodelling stuck in my head for hours. That usually happens right before I go to bed, so a bad commercial jingle will be stuck in my head as I'm deperately trying to go to sleep.

The same thing happens when I go to a store that has music playing. When I get home after visiting a store, I'll find myself humming something truly awful, like Air Supply or something, and then realize that I heard it at the store. The songs just creep insidiously into my brain and take up residence.

Some of the other music that sticks:

The theme song from Adult Swim's Sealab 2021 - almost every day when I wake up. And I haven't even seen an episode in months.

A song called Apolcalypse Playground that I wrote for a band that several of my friends are in.

And, right now, it's Dancin' Fool by Frank Zappa, since that was the last song I heard before turning off my MP3 player.

For me? I find myself humming:

Anything by the Beatles (namely "Eight Days a Week")
"Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who
                "One" from A Chorus Line
"I used to be Snow White... but I drifted."~Mae West

We've Had Enough - Alkaine Trio
This Could Be Love - Alkaline Trio (especially if I hear anyone say Step One...)

When customers start inane stories at my stand, I get that scene from the Simpsons in my head, where Homer is not listening (to Marge?) and he has a black&white cartoon playing in his head with the old-timey music) Then my eyes glaze over and I just stand there and nod and smile blankly.

The funny thing is my cell phone ringtone is This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas and whenever I get a phone call, within 10 minutes I will hear someone nearby humming it, so I guess I put the song into their brains.

Not long ago, Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" was stuck in my head. I have no idea why...possibly because it was the first tune I heard after I took delivery of the Corolla? Other favorites include "The Self-Preservation Society" (Italian Job), and Donald Fagen's "Morph the Cat."

Thanks to a chat I had with Emrld the other day, I had almost the entire Michael Jackson collection in my head. The songs blocked out everything else. He had some infectious songs back in the day. While it was nice to relive the songs I haven't heard in a long time, I just wish I could have shut them off.
                      The song list:
                      Dirty Diana
                      Leave Me Alone
                      Beat It
                      Billy Jean
                      Smooth Criminal
I Just Can't Stop Loving You
                      Thriller

Even had some Jackson Five songs.

Thanks, Emrld! I owe you one.

Age and wisdom don't necessarily go together. Some people just become stupid with more authority.

I usually get a very weird mix thrown in my head. Earlier I had Sexy Back (Justin Timberlake) in my head, and every so often I'll get King of Kings by Motorhead stuck amongst the grey matter.

Don't ask me....I just listen to the music the voices want. Every so often they let me pick the station.
Answers are easy...it is asking the right questions which is hard.
