What really bothers me is the parents who take their kids out on a hot, sunny summer day in just a diaper. Do they not realize how fast an infant will get sunburn or develop heat stroke??

I always want to go up to the parents and tell them to put clothes and a hat or bonnet on the kid if they're going to be outside on a sunny, hot day.

it's not limited to kids; there's a rash of those who think sleepwear is appropriate in public: at school, in stores, etc.
I think it goes in cycles. There was the same exact fad back around '97. Must be one of the great patterns of nature... just like boot-cut vs. straight-leg and dark vs. neon.

no, it's just lazy; dress your sorry ass before you leave. sheesh.

i've also seen the poorly dressed, dirty children; sadly, the parents were in the same state.

hygiene and appropriate dress are two more casualties of the public's war on dress codes.

You have to wonder what the hell some of these parents are thinking.
I think you are under the mistaken assumption that these people think...

I saw this once happen when I was at the Smithsonian. Being there is so much to see and a lot of walking to do, many people often will find a place to sit down for a few minutes. I saw this one family who sat down, and one of the kids, looked to be about 10 years old, took off his sandals. Within a minute, one of the guards came over and scolded this kid to put his shoes back on immediately. It was as if he was committing a crime, when all he did was slip his feet out for a few moments. The kid was wearing a shirt and shoes, and all he did was remove the shoes for a few minutes. No big deal to me.

In the summer, we have signs on the door stating that shirts and shoes must be worn, for health reasons. Even so, there was this mother who tried to bring in a little boy with no shoes (she was carrying them in her hand) and she was stopped at the door by a supervisor. The woman refused to put the boy's shoes on him til she was told that the reason why shoes must be worn is cuz there are spillages and glass breakages instore and she didn't want her son to tread on a sliver of glass or a puddle of spilled bleach. That hadn't even occurred to her... sigh.

When I was working at Wal-Mart a couple years ago, a woman came into the store with her little girl wrapped half-heartedly under her coat, limbs sticking out. The little girl had on no shoes, no coat and a thin dress with short sleeves. Mind you this was on one of the windiest days of the year, in the middle of winter, in ALASKA. My friend and I were shocked and tempted to give that mother a talking to. I don't care if that girl threw the mother of all fits when (if?) she tried to bundle her up, no parent should let their child out like that. It's just plain wrong.

I just love our system of values. People will call the COPS when a parent gives a rotten child a WHACK, like they deserve (and sometimes DESPERATELY need...) But then will turn away and claim "family business " when it's clear they are being abused.

The diaper is considered full if, when thrown, it sticks to the wall.

Please, for all the snorkleberries, please don't ask how I know this.

At the gas station, I saw parents trudging in toddlers who were naked save for their diapers, which were sagging to the floor.
Just remember, when the diaper package says 10 - 15 lbs, that is the baby's weight, not how much they can hold. Change them early, change them often.

Because your future evil overlord cares

I'm more concerned about the children who dress themselves sometimes!
It was a treat when I got to dress myself. Granted, I had a tendency to OD on the clothes, rather than run around nekkid.

Now, I understand letting the kids play in the house or in your yard in a diaper, or just a pair of shorts. But it's icky to me to take them out into public, especially if you're going to sit them in a shopping cart or similar situation, where germs get spread.

Plus, to me, it's dangerous for the kid as well. More exposed skin means more chances to injure oneself, especially in terms of scrapes and such, and more places for bug bites and irritation. I love running around barefoot, but wouldn't think of doing so in a public place, where there's a much greater chance that I'll step on something or stub my toe.

Yesterday it was about 35 degrees with a pretty stiff wind. I was getting cold being outside for a minute or two doing carryouts with my coat, hat and gloves on. And here are tweens and pre-teens walking around in shorts, capris and flip flops.

It is much too cold to be dressed like that. I'm surprised they don't get frostbite.

Wait a minute! I'm supposed to bathe my child too? No one has ever told me that! That means I have to find the bathtub in the storage ... I mean, bathroom.

Yeah, my daughter gets a bath pretty regularly. (You know, once a week on a Saturday night, but not with a lot of water, 'cos you know, water is evil, and too much of it can hurt you).*

Ummm ... I did take my daughter to the local grocery store in pj's and slippers once. However, she was sick and not feeling good and I had enough of a time trying to get her into her coat. I needed to get her medicine so it was just a quick little jaunt to the store.
Yeah, but that's still clothing. It's not just running around in a diaper or underpants. Plus, I'm sure she'd been bathed recently.
