Mmm.... another coaster junkie, here.

Yeah, carnie rides are not particularly safe. Safe enough, but only barely.

And I've known people who worked short stints at carnivals. Unless you are a Carnie, it sucks serious ass.

The "hang for 7 seconds then drop" ride at Magic Mountain is called Freefall. The time you wait at the top of the tower before the drop isn't actually a set amount. It varies slightly from fall to fall just to give you that much more of a thrill when it doesn't drop when you expect it to. I love that stuff.

An interesting note, but the rides at Magic Mountain (out here in California) are often much older than the rides on the east coast. I don't know that it happens so much these days, but it used to be that some rides would start out in the east coast parks, and then, when they were phased out, they'd be moved west. But as I mentioned, I'm pretty sure that's much less likely to be the case any more.

OT, the ONLY ride that makes me sick to this day is that damned Viking ship that swings back and forth slowly. On two seperate occasions I was dragged on there by some friends, despite my protests that I'd get ill. Both times I threw up afterward. I made sure to aim DIRECTLY at their shoes both times.

Ah, I love that thing! It's the only carnival ride that I will go on anymore. (Why my motion sickness tolerance left me at around age 18, I'll never know ) I like to sit in the very last row and put my hands straight up in the air.

Ugh. I can't handle most coasters (just the straightforward Comet at The Great Escape, thank you, and that one's first drop is pushing it), swinging rides, spinny-twisty-upside-down rides, teacups, etc. The Scrambler, Alpine Bobsled spinny-ride, and Cannonball are about it. Oh, and the Trabant. I guess they're not as sickness-inducing as the rest (at least for me). Plus I hate drops.

Went on a "hangliding" ride at the fair last time I went. That was pushing it for the motion sickness aspect, though the ride itself was rather fun. And I almost went on the Nightmare (indoor in-the-dark roller coaster) once, but the line ended up being too long and the field trip was ending.

So am I, but I can't physically go on the one I mentioned - X:No Way Out - because of its copious flashing lights. Brain go pop, I spazz. Argh.

Nah, front row if the wait isn't too bad. Nothing like hanging over that first drop while the back cars are still attached to the chain. You get a better view too, no hands in the way.

Ah, but you see, the back end goes faster and hits higher g's through nearly the whole ride. And much less competition for the seats, too.

I went on tht thing the entire day for four hours straight, stopping to eat and tinkle only.

I can walk about halfway to the guy in the middle, do sit-ups, and push-ups.

Never been sick, even on a full stomach!

Oh, wow. I used to love that ride. It sounds like the Super Round Up at Bells in Tulsa. I don't know how many times I rode that thing, but I used to get off and get right back in line when I finished.

Of course the mother in the OP was dumb. I remember hearing similar stories of stupidity when I worked at Six Flags. Some people just couldn't understand why letting a toddler ride a roller coaster was not a good idea.

I guess it has something to do with movement. Teacups spin me sideways more, while on the Scrambler you go forward more. :: And motion sickness has always been a problem for me. I can't read for long in a moving vehicle (airplanes and charter buses excepted) without getting nauseous and needing to stop.

Heh. Speaking of the Scrambler.... The first time I ever went to the Great Escape, I saw this domed building with a sign labelling it "Cutter's Mystery Ride" or something like that. Long line, people screaming from inside. Was too chicken to try it. Two years later, I was at the park again on a school field trip, and my friends and I decided to wait in line this time to see what it was.

Turns out, it's the Scrambler in the dark with loud music and strobe lights. The screaming was because the DJ told everyone to so he would make the ride go faster.

I must join the ranks of saying I LOVE that ride. The one time I've been to the county fair, they had that ride and I rode it five or six times in a row. I got a little nauseous after the fifth time because I'd eaten beforehand. I just waited until it passed, then went right back on the ride.

As for that mother, I must point out that at least she asked before trying to take her kid on the ride. Sure, that doesn't excuse her, but at least she had that much sense, right?

I used to enjoy the spinning ride it was called Time Shaft I believe here until it made me real dizzy on the ride I fell and broke my hand in 3 places. I didn't realize it was broken until the next morning when I woke up looked at it and it was 3 times the size it normally was.

I feel sick just thinking of the last time I was on that ride. Nearly ten years ago and I can safely say I would NEVER go near it. I think thats when I discovered my extreme motion sickness. I was sick for like a week...
