What the man said was absolutely right. He wasn't sucky in the slightest. And what does his weight or anything about his appearance have to do with anything?

Okay, here's the part where I try to save face.
I did at least follow the guy's "advice" and get a fresh plate.
And for the record, this isn't so much a "germ" issue as it is a "minding your own business" issue.Screw normal. You know why? 'Cause if you're normal, the crowd will accept you. But if you're deranged, the crowd will make you their leader.

When the utensils used to put the food on your plate are coming in contact with food remains on your dirty plate, any germs you left behind are going back into the food via the utensils.Quoth solidmetalgear19 View Post

Old Country Buffet! I remember that place, it was so good. Unfortunately, I haven't been there since I was about 6 years old.Quoth idrinkarum View PostOld Country Buffet, a local buffet place
I still live in the area though, I really need to go back there again.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here it's a state law (or at least health code) that buffets are not allowed to let people reuse plates. So the staff here is fairly good about monitoring used plates. My Pointless Links collection.

They should pass that law everywhere.Quoth redmountaingoldfish View PostI don't know about the rest of the country, but here it's a state law (or at least health code) that buffets are not allowed to let people reuse plates. So the staff here is fairly good about monitoring used plates.

Man I feel like such a tool. I would always consider using the same plate because in my mind that's less work for the dishwashers.
All this time I thought I was doing someone a favour.

I didn't even consider germs, seeing as I have a very George Carlin mentality towards them.

It's also a health code violation and could potentially shut the store down.Ridiculous 2009 Predictions: Evil Queen will beat Martha Stewart to death with a muffin pan. All hail Evil Queen! (Some things don't need elaboration.....) -- Jester

I have only once been to a buffet that doesn't require that you get clean plates each time... and that was a chick buffet (different varieties of fried chicken, so there was no contact between the serving utensils and the plate, just tongs that you use to pick up the chicken and drop it)... and even then they had a sign that plates could only be reused for getting chicken, the rest of the buffet (ie salads and sides) you needed a new plate each time.
Oh and to the OP, while I agree that obesity is a huge problem (no pun intended) and encourage everyone who is overweight (myself included) to lose weight... the pizza buffet is not the time nor the place to bring it up... even on a diet you need to cheat once in a while or you will fail completely. If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

Am I the only one who no logical way germs cold be spread from your plate to someone else's plate/food? There are several Pizza buffets around here and all of them have eitheir metal spatulas or thongs to let you fill your plate
also as for the clean plate thing , I've been to more buffets then I can count ( i was a starving student for a long time lol) of all different kinds and in many different places and NEVER have i seen any sign or been instructed by staff to get a fresh plate
I agree with the OP that the guy should have minded his own business

I just came from a buffet lunch . . .signs all over the place.
Yes folks, it does have to do with health code regulations.
Yes, if an inspector comes in and sees people not following that rule they can and will shut a place down. If that person really enjoy's the Pizza Hut Buffet then it does become his business to protect what he enjoys.
It can be hard in these postings to understand emotion. If the customer said it with a bad attitude, or yelled and the whole place turned that would be one thing. If he was attempting to educate you - it may have just been a mis-communication.
So in the future let's get clean plates when we go back for seconds when it is the rule . . .even if the plate seems clean to us.
As for Cici's it depends on the location . . .when I was a teen I thought it was great . . .we have one here I have no problem with . . .another and I get heart burn everytime - yes, folks I know I am old because Pizza give me heart burn

And the ironic part is, (correct me OP, if i'm wrong) the whole point of this thread was that people need to mind their own business. But instead everyone jumps on this person for using the same plate twice. Ok so you wouldn't do that. Doesn't mean no one else in the world would. But to completely miss the point of the thread and instead just throw judgements and criticism the OPs way is silly.
I'm sure this post pissed off a number of people (although i want to emphasize that that was not my intention,) so i will probably just go back to lurking from now on.Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Was it another customer, or an employee?
If it was an employee, he has every right to be in your business to protect other customers, if you're violating a buffet rule.
If it was another customer, he could have either just avoided the food items you were eating, notified an employee and asked them to clarify the "new plate each trip" rule, or asked more nicely-- say, "Did you know it's actually a health code violation to reuse plates at buffets? I used to do that, but when I found out they could close the restaurant for it, I started getting a new plate every time. Would you mind doing the same?"My basic dog food advice - send a pm if you need more.
