Well, no. It's not the new sexy thing. It's the old sexy thing. It's the VERY old sexy thing.

And sadly, that's no act. Any woman who feels like she has to act dumb probably really is that dumb.

But it's okay, she'll get exactly what she deserves...a man who wants absolutely no challenge or mental stimulation from her, who goes after stupid women because it's the only way he can himself feel superior. In other words, an dumb loser.

So it all works out. Smart men dont' go for these girls.

I'll second that. It was a problem back when I was a wee lad, many years ago.* The problem is that too many girls (not women; I don't consider them mature enough to be women, no matter what their chronological age is) are desperate to have a man. They don't care what they have to sacrifice to get one— including self respect, future potential, or anything, just so they can say they have a man.

And yeah, they get what they deserve. A man who's willing to take a girl who sacrifices self respect, future potential, etc....

Me, I wanted a woman who would be able to help me build a life, raise a family, and generally try to be the best people we could be. Waited. Found one. Eighteen years later, no regrets. Well, minor regret that the wait part was a long time. But in the end, I'm glad I didn't rush that part at all.

I'm smart, I can just be ditzy and forgetful. My attention is on other things.

But if you want a girl who is not only cute, but you can have in depth conversations about psychology, philosophy and english with, I'm your girl.
The boy has said he has only ever had a one night stand with dumb girls, and even that was because he was hideously drunk. He wants a woman he can talk to.

But 'men' are just as bad about this. Girls wouldn't feel that dumb is sexy if so many boys out there didn't find smart women so intimidating. Trust me I have some stories...

I agree with whoever said to take the warning labels off stuff in order to quash stupidity. I will also go further and say that anyone who does something incredibly stupid, ie like leaving their car in a safari park and running up to the lions to pet them, should not be given any compensation if they survive, and neither should their family. Instead, their story should just be used as warning to anyone who thinks about emulating their behaviour.

This made me smile. Congrats on eighteen years together.

it was true even back in my HS days 30 years ago. the "cheerleader" dumb as rocks, but pretty stereotype (I emphasis STEREOTYPE) ya know the one ALL the boys wanted but the dumb as "rocks" football type got. but then sometimes the stereotype is true. like poles sometimes do attract.

I at least wanted someone who may not be booksmart but had "street" smarts and good common sense. not some dumb trophey GF. and yes I dated the school "bookworm" in HS not to get my homeowrk done but I did find her an interesting person once you got to know her. she did have flaws that ultimetly led to our breakup a few years down the road and us going to different colleges did have an effect.

I'm sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but for most of them it's not an act.
                It....it's NOT?!?!?!

Hang on, I have to cry.

                Okay, I'm done.

I can act like a complete and total ditz (Generally known as my Spaz Attacks). But somehow I always let slip something that catches someone unawares.

                It's fun.

Every time I run into a (deliberately) stupid person {meaning someone who's acting stupid for the benefit of attracting another}, I have to fight the urge to smack them around.

I think the problem can be summed up by a quote from a character* portrayed by an original Hollywood bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.

"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses."
It was originally said by Dorothy Parker.

And I disagree wholeheartedly, women in glasses are sexy.

                          .

"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." Glasses used to equate intelligence(and probably still do), hence the reason to appear less so for prospective suitors.

                          .
I have to say, I absolutely do not believe this. When I started wearing glasses full time, the number of guys hitting on me went through the roof. Seriously. I'd get hit on occasionally before I needed to wear them full time. I started wearing them all day, and I was getting hit on, complemented, propositioned, flirted with, etc. DAILY. And no, I dont' think they make me look more attractive, either. Not if looking like Ghandi or John Lennon is sexy on a chick. I have always worn Windsor spectacles.

The husband says they make me look more approachable. Maybe so.

I don't believe it either, actually. I was just using it as an example of how long ago that train of thought started.

I wear glasses too! I've had more than my fair share of guys hitting on me because of it, and also a few backhanded compliments along the lines of 'you actually make glasses on a girl look pretty!'. Gee, thanks. I think it just has to do with personal preferences. I've even heard rumor there's a glasses fetish but who knows?

Another side of the coin, I once introduced myself to a young woman who had flatly said at one point that she was tired of stupid guys and wanted someone intelligent to have conversations with.

Apparently, being able to discuss Quantum Theory on any appreciable level was "too much".
