I think the problem can be summed up by a quote from a character* portrayed by an original Hollywood bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.
"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." Glasses used to equate intelligence(and probably still do), hence the reason to appear less so for prospective suitors.
My observations have been that young men are also as guilty as young women in this department, however. For every "Like OMG!" I hear from a girl, I hear a similar sounding "Dude! Duuuuude." from boys.
Gender equality in stupidity makes me a sad panda.

No, he's not easy to live with at times, but then, neither am I, so it balances out. Oh, and he says that only insecure and/or lazy men want the dumb 'cute' twits, because it's a lot easier to get them than to impress a woman with actual standards. ('Dude', a real woman isn't looking at the brand of your shoes or the label on your pants. She's actually listening to what comes out of your mouth and most of the time, she's not impressed, just so you know.)
