  • And you let her out like that!?

On the way home from out trip to Tennessee my husband and I stopped in a Cracker Barrel for Lunch. It was slightly busy with family's coming home from 1 last camp out and such.

As we're holding a normal conversation I see my husband get the look. Curious I look around and see nothing at first. My husband then tells me to look down more as I was checking adults.

I finally see what he's looking at and I'm pretty sure my expression mirrored his.

This little girl could not have been older then 8 and she is seriously dressed like a hooker. She's got pigtails, a plaid miniskirt that would not cover anything up the minute she started moving quickly in any direction, knee high leather boots, and a tank top shirt in white that was so thin she needed to wear something under it cause I could see skin through it, I'm pretty sure someone would be able to see nipples if they went over. All she was missing was the heavy make up!

We had to seriously ask to move to another table because there was no way we would be able to eat with her there, and more then likely I would have snapped off on the parents for letting their child out in public like that! It still ticks me off and my husband had to drag me away when I made noises about stopping at their table.

it is sad that there is still a lot of prosti-tots out there. Can't just hold the parents responsible though. The current Role Models out there for little girls are definitely sending the wrong message. *Ahem* Brittany Spears, Bratz, hell the list is endless.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the wife getting dolled up in various costumes, but I cannot even think how a girl that young, or her parents could think that it is cute, unless Daddy happens to be a pedo, and bought the damn thing for his enjoyment.

Last year there was a girl that went to first day of school (Grade 8 I believe, so about 13 or 14 years old) and she had a mini that wouldn't keep Victoria's secret at all, Short sleeve dress shirt tied Daisy Duke Style, and FISH-NET knee-highs. Funny thing is, I knew she got it from the local fuckerware shop, as I had seen the items last time the wife and I went "Shopping" Could not believe my eyes that an innocent young girl would do her back to school shopping at a sex shop.

So I am on the bus with the wife, and I gave her one of my looks, and she gives me the nod to go ahead:

      Cast:
      Me:
      PT: Prosti-Tot

      Me: So how much?
      PT: 'scuse me??
Me: How much for the night?
      PT: How much for what?
      Me: One night with you...
      PT: OMG!!! YOu're a Pedophile aren't you?
Me: Sure am sweet Cheeks. Wanna come over and play?
(By now, she is scared. I am old enough to be her father, and you can just tell she is getting very uncomfortable)
PT: Where would you even get the idea that I would be interested?
Me: Maybe it's the fact that your entire outfit was purchased at Bent over Leather, and you look like you need to get laid.
      PT:
My Wife: Seriously sweetie, I think you should go home and change. The next guy won't be messing with your head.

I love being in a small town. Once this got around, the next time I saw her, she was actually dressed appropriately. I made sure to comment about it the next time I saw her. Her Mother was with her that time, and thanked me profusely for scaring her daughter straight.

This is not a recommended course of action though, as you can probably guess, the situation could have been VERY bad for me, had I not Known and been known by everyone.

Seriously though, the role models are no better or worse really... Well maybe they are worse in cases but I'm sure when Marylin Monroe was around and all the girls tried to be like her people frowned at them too. Still I was raised that certain things should be covered and there were clothes that you did not leave the house in. Most parents though nowadays don't seem to care much about what their kids do and even less about what they are wearing.

I give you kudos on scaring that one girl though. Things like this is why I'm glad I have a son and make me debate having another.

Role models for guys aren't much better. There may not be as much pressure to be physically attractive, but there's a lot of pressure to be ladies men like Justin Timberlake (just picking at examples here) or never to let a "bitch" boss them around (thank you, rappers and that song "99 problems").

But despite the role models out there, the parents are the ones buying this stuff. Or NOT in the case of good parents. And making the pre-teen go return stuff that wasn't approved. Only when my kids are legal adults and purchasing the clothes with their own money will I no longer have veto power. Period.

Yeah, you CAN hold the parents totally responsible. What kid that age has a job? And even if a kid had her own money and could buy her own clothes, her parents still have control over what she's wearing.

No way in hell would my parents have let me out of the house dressed up like a little hooker. My mother didn't let me wear makeup or even shave my legs until I was a teenager. And with the makeup, even then I had to keep it low key until I got older.

In some cases, I'm betting the parents don't know. I knew of a few kids in school whose parents were strict on clothing and makeup. So they'd leave in parent approved fasion, and at school - or a friend's - they'd change into what they wanted.

Sometimes borrowing from friends, sometimes buying with gift money or money from part-time jobs and/or babysitting.

The parents still should be paying attention, but it's possible they don't know. (That obviously doesn't apply to the 'parent' in the OP, but possibly might be why the parent in Qaeria's post didn't.)

And the "parents" who complain about their kids doing drugs and having sex and all that other stuff are often the same ones letting the kids dress like that. It's called parenting for a reason. My mom never let me out of the house wearing what she considered icky stuff (mind you, my tastes were borderline goth/just plain weird, not slutty - I once bought a t-shirt with a grinning skull in a top hat and smoking a cigar on it because I thought it was funny; Mom didn't think so and made me return it to the store. Which at the time I was not happy with her over that, but in retrospect, it was one of those things that make me go "dayum, what was I thinking when I got that?").

And I thought it was bad when I saw the 10ish-year-old girl wearing sweat pants with hand-shaped patches on the ass. That was several years ago...wonder what she's wearing now...

Absolutely! I think I was coming from the position that "it takes a community to raise a child." Parents have a huge responsibility for sure, however now that we are in a global community, aspects of that community have a huge influence. The message being sent to the kids is not a positive one for how to go about life. The bottom line is parents can do only so much, and I think we all need to share in the responsibility for what happens to the young.

And it's not just (un)sexy clothes, we have seen stories of tweens demonstrating Customer suckdom at unheard of levels. Just what exactly are we teaching our kids?

And Becks~ That may be a bad idea with the amish...They have a year of freedom starting at 16 in which then can do whatever they want....And I do mean WHATEVER they want. Drive cars, drink, sex..and theyre not liable to answer to their parents. Ive seen tricked out buggies with rims and radios..I shit you not. The church doesnt encourage these behaviours but they cant stop them either.(No, Im not amish)..So, maybe just 15? Thats still a long enough to instill a good work ethic..

all i can remember is... when i was really young i was allowed to wear some shot cropped shirts... but as soon as i started to develop... mom wouldn't let me leave the house wearing one of them.

of course by today's standards those short-cropped shirts would probably be matronly.

makes me wonder if the people pushing those sex-up-your-preteen clothes... are being secretly supported by the kiddyporn rings. ... afterall... you really can't be arrested for looking at something that's shown on a public street.
