First of all: You shouldn't have been bleeding.
Second: If you want more control over your nail length, don't let them put tips or anything on you, you just want acrylic over your natural nail. Try the description: sport length, rounded tips.
*I* would NOT have tipped him. Sure, you might be a little sore from getting your nails done the first time, but you should not have been in the level of pain you described.
Don't be afraid to communicate with them. My first nail experience was HORRID (aside from bleeding.....wasn't doing that). Nails were like big, square claws and CAKED with glue on the sides and underneath. I had told the girl I wanted French tips, thinking that she would put on acrylic and paint the tips white. Nope, she put on a ton of plastic (actually thought it might look better til she failed to listen to me tell her how short I wanted them THREE times). It was so trashy. I went home and had to break out my tool box just to chip the glue out from underneath, it was solid and smooth to my fingertip, little backfilled triangles of glue. And I filed most of it off. Never went back. This wasn't from a gal that I didn't communicate with either, she just didn't listen. How do you turn "sport length, round tip" into "OMG I live in a trailer park and I just spent my kids' food money on my nails"?
I have a wonderful nail lady now. Probably have her do my hair, too, if I ever do anything to my hair.
And around here it only costs $20 for a fill, though I hear stories from hoity toity types I deal with on the East Coast that pay $100 for a fill.....jesus.
