So, there's not going to be a tow truck. At least, not right now. The guy's finally talked to us, and we've made a deal.

He's going to move his other car that's parked in his spot and let us park there until he can move his car.

Still not sure why he'd park his car in our spot with a busted tranny in the first place. He's apologized and found us an alternative parking spot, so I suppose that works out for now.

That's my biggest peeve. If you want to use our parking for some reason, just ask us and we can probably work a deal. We can be nice people. Don't just park there, though, 'cause we can be really not nice people. (Once, our upstairs neighbor asked to trade spots for a weekend, since one of our spots is near the stairs and his disabled mother was visiting and he didn't want her to have to park across the lot where his spot was. He asked nicely and I obliged and parked across the lot that weekend. Ask, and ye shall probably receive!)

If they live there too and they know that the numbers painted in the spots refer to the apartment numbers (you said yours is #114), they could have knocked on your door or left a note on it saying what's the deal instead of inconveniencing you and making you chase them down for two days.

Yes, the neighbor offered you his other space because he was busted, but he handled it like a douchebag from the get-go. He should be kissing your ass for not having him towed in the first place.
I was not hired to respond to those voices.

Much nicer note than I've gotten on my car. I just get occasional "DON'T PARK HERE!!!" notes on my car when I park at my house.

Well, I wouldn't park there except I live in the city, and there's only street parking available.

        *rant*

You, oh mighty writer of the note, have no claim to that spot. Yep, parking in the city can be a pain, I know. But we're LUCKY. We have a church and unused school that covers half of one side of the block. Combined with the empty lot the next block down, it means there's rarely ever NOT a spot within a quarter of a block from our doors. The only time we are ever short on spaces is when a church service is going on, and that's only on Sunday morning. Someone is parked in front of your house? Suck it up and park somewhere else that is a whole extra 100 feet away just like I did because someone was parked in front of my house. Just be thankful you don't need to spend 20 minutes driving around trying to find a spot. Now, I'd understand if you were somehow disabled and have not been able to convince the city to mark the spot in front of your house as a handicap spot. If you had explained as such nicely, I'd make an effort to not park there, but right now you just seem like an asshole.

Is your spot or his closer to the entrance to the parking lot? Because that might be your answer. If yours is closer, it was simply a matter of convenience when the car stopped working properly.

While it seems that this person is pretty flagrant, and deserving of the tow job (heh), unless this was the second (or more) note, you would have come across as pretty damn passive-agressive to me.

              Just sayin.

Yay! We have our parking spot back! He's pushed it to another space...I hopefully presume one of his.

What apparently happened was that he just bought the car, and it turned out to be a lemon. He was stopped at his friend's apartment just to drop something off, so he used our space, and found out he couldn't back it back out.

Still no excuse to wait two days to talk to us. All's well and good now, though.

Actually, it's way in the back. There's literally only two that are further back, one of which is another spot of ours. It's right near his buddy's apartment, though.

                    I have a similar situation.

I came home and there is a strange car parked in my parking spot. RIGHT NOW.

Note that this is on a paved driveway in front of the house I live at, entirely on private property.

Also I am not a nice person when it comes to people being tards like that. Unfortunately it looks like before I am allowed to have the car towed I must first file a police report, in person, and also pay a filing fee, and then contact a towing company.

I am currently parked behind that car. This means that if they want to leave they have to let me know. I have also written down the car's information should they try anything fishy such as vandalize my car.

for handicapped parking... my apartment complex solves that issue really nicely...
they have posted handicapped parking spots for the residents who require it.

Using my awesome psychic powers, I have sensed that this is another instance of a car breaking down and the driver parking in the nearest convenient location, which happened to be your driveway. As a concerned citizen, you should offer them your immediate assistance. Pop open the hood of the car, by whatever means necessary, and start overhauling the engine. Take it apart, piece by piece, as much as you can. Then sell the pieces on eBay.

So the guy also lives there and decided to use your space. Niiiice. I'd call the leasing office and ask for $ to be deducted from your rent and billed to his, since you didn't have use of your parking space for several days! What a jackass! I wish your property had stuck-up for you more.

I disagree. The parking spaces are clearly labelled - there was nothing stopping the parker from approaching the OP (or leaving a note under their door) and saying "Sorry, but there's an issue with my car, and I can't get it to move! Is it ok if I temporarily leave it there?"

On our lease, it's pretty threatening and to the point that you get your own spot, period, guests park on the street, period, any vehicles that aren't tenants will be towed !!11!!!!

Yet all the old people downstairs allow their guests to park in the blank spots (those blank spots are for roomates, but you can imagine the older folks only have one car per place so they aren't used by tenants).

And yet if one of my friends comes over for 5 minutes to borrow me something or pick something up, they are threatened and screamed at by the golden oldies downstairs. They did this to one of my friends last fall, and it turns out, they were expecting company and they wanted that spot free for their friend. So neither of us were in the right but god damn, I can't but you can?

One Sunday I came home from my bf's and someone was parked in my spot. I immediately called the landlord because it's what I was told to do when I moved in. He said there was nothing he could do about it, if I wanted I could take down the license plate and make and model and color and we'd see if they were still there tomorrow.

Nice. I wonder if we're allowed to call tow trucks here or if we actually need permission.
