"Vehicles abandoned in this area will be considered the property owners, towed and sold. Thank you for your business at AAAA abandoned vehicle reassignment!
When my grandmother owned her farm, it seemed that cars were always breaking down near her property. Not surprising, since she lived 3 miles from town. Most of the time, the driver always asked if it was OK to leave the car off to one side. As long as we could still park there, and it wasn't blocking the gate, she didn't care. Usually, the cars were gone in an hour or two.

But one asshole nearly found his vehicle sitting on 4 flat tires in the county impound yard. That piece of shit sat for a *week.* Good thing that one of the neighbors saw it the week prior...in the driveway of the trailer down the road. They were quick to remove it, otherwise it would have been impounded. Not long after that, I did put up a sign that any abandoned vehicles would be removed after 24 hours.

No sooner did I put that sign up...when a group of kids had their station wagon break down. I don't know what the hell they were doing, but they'd ripped out the entire ignition switch! I was willing to call a tow truck, or even help them fix the car. Instead, they came up with a better idea. That is, they'd push their black car--with no lights of *any* kind on it--down the highway at night to the trailer where one of the kids lived. I tried to talk them out of it, but they were insistent. At that point, I said goodbye, and left them to their own devices. I didn't hear any squealing of tires or crunching metal, so I hope that means they made it.

      ripped out the ignition switch?

you sure it was *their* car? ... might be why they didn't want any help...

If I came home and found a strange car parked on my lawn, I'd consider it a present.

Maybe I should have put up no tresspassing signs - but since they never seem to read signs it probably would'nt have mattered anyways. In hindsight I am probably lucky noone vandalized my house for towing them.

if you're still there i'd recommend it just to cover your assets.

I moved quite awhile ago, thank goodness - don't need that kind of stress anymore.

*nods* I can imagine it also doesn't help much for property values either, with the added noise, traffic, and the parking hells.

we do have some restaurants here that are close to homes, but usually not right next door. Except one bbq place but that's the owner's home so it doesn't count.

Would it be legal to clamp the cars?

Dunno - but since they were blocking me in they had to go.
At times I was tempted to start putting 50 cal slugs through engine blocks with my S&W 500 mag and see if that made any difference.
The only difference I see that making would be me in jail though for discharge of firearm in city limits.
If I still lived there I would have put up a heavy metal fence and gate - but then they would probably still block the gate...

This makes me think about the first house I could afford to rent. I was renting next to a grade school and people would park in my driveway when I was trying to go to work. I'd yell at them that I needed to leave and they would give me that dismissive handwave, tell me that they would just be a minute and leave.

I tried calling tow trucks, but the jerks would leave before the truck got there. I'd still be late to work.

I bought a beat up picktruck with a blown tranny for $500 and parked it on the street. When I was home for the night, I'd move it to block my driveway. Of course, this meant that when I was leaving, I had to move the truck into the road (blocking traffic because there was no street parking left), move my car out and then park the truck back to block my driveway. Yes, I am a bitch.

It was very entertaining at event nights because there were often cars in my driveway when I'd move my truck back to block the driveway again. People would bang on my door, demanding that I move my truck, and I'd tell them that I'd just be a few minutes and then go back to whatever it was that I was doing.

Several of my neighbors saw how much fun I was having and bought beaters as well. We didn't stop people from blocking us in, but we did entertain ourselves by doing the same thing to the jerks who thought it was OK to expect us to think that it was OK for them to block our driveway for just a few minutes.

Instead of buying a beater I probably would have bought a boot (its cheaper too) - boot em so they can't run away then tow em.
Also seeing you walk towards them with a boot might have made them move their ass - if not tough shit for them - you are already late might as well make the most of it.
That and it would be a lot less hassle putting a boot in the trunk than juggling 2 vehicles

I have to confess that I didn't know that I could boot a car, and didn't know that I could buy such a thing.

I just got up early to block traffic and tick people off. The only people trying to drive on that road were the ones who had to drive their kids to work because they were too precious to stand at the bus stop, or the ones like me who wanted to go to work.

The night time events were even more special. People would be outraged, OUTRAGED!!!, that I had parked them in when they had parked in my driveway. Don't I understand that their special snowflake had a game? Don't I understand that they are only trying to do the best for their kid and its not fair for me to make them walk a couple of blocks?

The guy with the Hummer who threatened to push my beater into the road just made me laugh. Go for it, dude.

well... that's cos most people probably think it's illegal - but hey... it's your property. you might not be allowed to search their cars but that doesn't mean you can't remove them from the property. even booting them

cos what will they do? sue you for not letting them use your property as a parking lot? i saw that on judge judy and she gave the driver hell for it

Yep, the barrel was on the floor. I've seen them actually break off--it happened on a Tempo I once owned. As for the car I have no idea if it was theirs or not. The trailer where it was usually parked, usually had an assortment of shitbox cars nearby. Instead, I have a feeling that not wanting the tow truck...might have been because of the $50 fee that the local towing company charged. I wasn't about to use my AAA card. A little old lady with a dead Buick, perhaps. But not these fools. If they thought that pushing their car along a rural two-lane highway...where most people ignored the 45mph speed limit...was a good idea, more power to them
