Sorry I'm late! Anyways, we went back yesterday, and the manager came up to us and told us that his co-worker, the female, ratted him out and he said he was "going to quit" anyways because he couldn't work where they allowed females to pretend they were gamers to shop. He apologized to us, and gave mom some credit on the Game Stop card.
Last time I was in a Game Stop (September, when I was on holiday in the States being I live in the UK) Both the people behind the desk were female and awesome, they were really friendly and helpful.

That guys brain would've exploded if I walked in there with a few choice people in my family, not only am I a gamer but so are my mom, sister, niece (pre approved my sister of course), and I also got my grandma sort of into it. I bet he's the kind of asshole that expects women to stay in the kitchen, if he would've said that shit to me I would've ripped his head off.

I'm really not surprised when I hear the stories about bad employees at gamestop. I stopped going after I went in to buy The Sims and the employee asked me why I wasn't interested in a man's game like Halo, after all, only girls and homos play the sims... I told him that for the record, I already owned Halo and I was a homo and the only reason he should care about either is if he wanted to game with me or date me and neither being the case I was leaving, and I walked out of the store.

            WHAAAAT ...

Then I'm guessing he's going to either be lucky to get a job in any other game store, or, if he does, he won't last long. NO business that wants to stay in business (not to mention avoid lawsuits!) is going to reject customers on the basis of their gender!

Then he's finished working in anything remotely relating to gaming.

A moment of silence, please, for his non-existent wisdom.
*goes briefly silent, except for the occasional snicker*

I have to admit I've never gone into any game stores, mostly because I wouldn't have a clue where to start once I got in there, but also because my desktop is a Mac, and if I'm not mistaken, there's a rather sad dearth of games for Macs. (If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me, although you may want to do so by PM so as not to threadjack ...)

I'm glad it worked out, Joyius!

As a former 'Stopper, I agree with everyone here, and the worthwhile people at that store -- that idiot has no place working in a game store of any kind.

What I love about these stories (being a woman gamer myself) is that there is an increasing number of girl gamers, to the point that it is predicted that soon there will be more ladies playing computer and console games than blokes. So anyone in the industry who doesn't respect female gamers (regardless of legal requirements to treat people equally), is going to lose out badly. :-)

Wooow, he actually rage-quit in real life?

                    What a troll.
Indeed. Good luck finding a new job, jackass. I'd also bet he still can't figure out why he can't find a girlfriend, as well. Pathetic little troll.

Glad the manager had the decency to put things right.

*just blinks again* You know.. I think I get his problem. In everything else, a woman is better than him, including being able to hit the toilet while peeing standing upright. He can't endure any more crushing blows to his man points, so....

Poor sot will never get a date with that attitude, because more and more girls are playing games like WoW, Skyrim (can't wait for the beta on ESO!!!) and the Halo series.

This did dreg up a fun one at the arcade my hubby used to work at. I was hanging around at the time, waiting for him to get off work, when one of our friends' little brother challenged me at Soul Edge. He was good for a first timer, but I beat him and told him with a bit more practice he'd beat me. Then I proceeded to teach him some of the moves that I had learned. The guy next to us proceeds to mouth off that HE could be me at it because I was just a girl and had no business teaching kids how to play. So I let him try. Note, I said try, because of two games, I beat him both times. And then hubby got to ban him from the arcade for cursing because of it. Yay! And the kid? Proceeded to beat the guy in the tournament a month or two later. So basically, I won all around!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

Back in 88 a guy that hung out in the game store in Norfolk VA wrote a game called Warbots and Death Machines and my first husband, my current husband, self, a friend of ours named Ken, a friend [tac officer ] named Chris and 2 guys that taught at the War College there got inveigled into forming 2 teams and playtesting it. The 3 officers lined up against the hubs and I with Ken as the presiding GM. The game is based on some other game using giant mechas, and also involved a bit of attempted realism with the need for a base camp with resupply and maintenance functions, and assorted scout troops and such. We are given a week to kibbitz and make up our teams with an operating budget - think Hammers Slammers type small mercenary units.

We fiddle fart around and since Rob and John were working port and starboard al week [Spadefish was in the yards doing a refit. Port and starboard is 12 hours on, 12 hours off until whatever evolution is finished.] I make up my entire team of one I go low tech and cheap out. I end up with 4 units of scout troops, each with an APC and driver/shotgun. I get 16 units of katushas, and all the support staffing to keep them happy. The opposition got 2 mechas and their support. We [subjectively] land on the planet, set up and start. I shoot out my scouts, get them in place while the mechas are stomping around looking for the wreck we are both after. I get my musicians ready and the organs start to play. I dropped an eraser missile on pretty much every square inch of their side of the sand table in rolling waves from their back end towards the middle and call it quits, pull in my katushas, and roll the scouts to the wreck and capture it.

Yup, I stomped the respective butts of a bunch of tactical trained professional officers. Psh, amatures study tactics, professionals study logistics. Make the best you can supply the most of do the most work.

For those not in the know, it's also a "life simulator" game (Nintendo originally called it a "communication game") like The Sims (I never played The Sims) but I don't know for sure which came first.

I mean if he thought The Sims were for "girls and homos" what would he think AC is for? :P

Ho-ly crap. I am a very reserved person by nature but I think I would have flipped out if anyone said that to me.

On a related note - one of my proudest moments as a kid was when I found my cousin and his friend playing Goldeneye 64. His friend was on a winning streak and they asked if I wanted to try. I hadn't played the game before, but I picked the character Natasha and gave it a shot.

Long story short, I shot and killed my cousins' friend's character less than 40 seconds in. I can still hear him yelling "WHAAAAT?!"
