((By the way, that's probably what my own career is going to be. I'm wavering between a counselling psych degree or clinical social work)).
Thank you. With the people who can be medicated to a level of 'can look after themselves', a counselling psychologist - ideally a team of them who can be on call at all hours - is an essential support person. A social worker is also essential.

One of my best friends is a 'can look after herself' mental health patient. Almost all the time, she's just fine. If she gets a gastric illness which prevents her meds from properly being absorbed, or something else happens to mess up the neurochemistry, she becomes temporarily unstable. We - her friends - can usually support her through these episodes, but sometimes she needs a professional.

So thank you for considering these two fields, Buglady. VERY valuable work!

    Lost In Translation

I do not speak German. I appreciate that you have learned enough English to ask “Do you speak German?”. However, it seems you have not learned enough English to realize that “No” in English does not mean “Why yes, I speak perfect German. I’m just pretending not to in order to frustrate and enrage you because I am jerk and think yours is a country of suspenders and hairy women. Now why don’t you run along and shave your wife's back or whatever it is you do over there.” in German.
I took 2 years German back in high school... my German isn't exactly the greatest.. but here's some German that may help you if you run into this again..

I don't speak German: Ich spreche nicht deutsch.
Literal translation: I speak not german.
    Pronounced: eekh sprecke neekt doytsh

    No: Nein
    Pronounced: nine

    Yes: Ja
    Pronounced: Ya

    I hope this helps!

Well, I went looking for them, and found the page "Escape Pants in Pants Section". I don't think someone thought their cunning plan all the way through...

A hip looking insulated pant. Comes with double snap waist with belt loops, is seam sealed, inner thigh venting, inner draw cords, and articulated knees. :'(
Wait... what? Articulated knees? Wtf, isn't that something made out of rigid material, like for example, oh I don't know.. A SUIT OF ARMOR would use? rather than normal pants??? What are these? pants for contortionists? or is the material so bad you need articulated knees to be able to walk.. and a page to help you put them on...

    “SHOW US YOUR TITS!”
They should have asked me. I'd show them hairy moobs like they've never seen.

As for the pink, its not so much the colour but the intensity of said colour.
    Yeah...um...lemme put it like this.

I'm sitting about fifteen feet from my bedroom. There is a pink GLOW coming through the crack under the door. And I don't have any lights on in there save natural sunlight through the window. You do the math.

I like really, really, REALLY intense pinks.

Well, I'm glad some progress has been made with the fangirl situation, but yeah, shouldn't she be in a hospital if she's that bad?
She probably should, on purely compassionate grounds; can you imagine how chaotic and frightening her inner life must be? But there isn't anywhere for her to go.

The deinstitutionalization movement in mental health care hit especially hard in BC. Basically, there aren't any hospitals left; I believe that the entire Vancouver Health Region (population 2 million or so) currently has a grand total of less than 100 beds for psychiatric patients. You have to be an immediate danger to yourself and to others before you can even get on the waiting list for voluntary treatment (at which point they basically say "good luck with not killing yourself for six months, here's a crisis hotline number"), and the involuntary commitment process is almost as bad.

Phoning people and harassing them takes a backseat to the people pushing each other in front of the Skytrain and/or killing and eating each other

Ok good, so I was right

We had a Baby Phat store very briefly at the mall here. It didn't last long, as you can imagine, most of us small town Wisconsinite blue collar workers can't afford to blow $80 on a pair of jeans. Add to the fact that the "rent" for stores at the mall here is outrageous.....you don't sell much, you don't make much.....bye bye Baby Phat....hello blank store that's been "for rent" ever since.

*snort* (sorry Jester) OK..that was mean. Funny as hell, but mean.
Not at all. If I can dish it out, I certainly should be able to take it. And, frankly, I can.

How do the laces do that? They're pink at the bottom, but white everywhere else. Are they multicoloured laces, that have to be laced precisely so the pink bit is in the right place? I'm fascinated!

You know, I didn't notice that.......now I need to know the answer.
Two very bright guys....and y'all need me, a dude that was verbally bitch-slapped in this very thread, to explain this to you? REALLY?

    *sigh*

It's very simple. Long white laces. One band of pink in the middle. When the factory laces them, they simply put the pink band in the middle when they do the first two eyelets. Not tough. Alternatively, if not laced at the factor, you yourself do the same thing when you get them home. Again, not tough.

Hell, I went to Arizona State and I figured that out without a problem.

    did you mean Baby Phat?
I think that's the actual name.

If you Google "Baby Phat Tag Cat Low" in image search, you get pictures of some very similar shoes.

Are those shoes really called Baby Fat, or did you mean Baby Phat? I'm just thinking of the Kimora Lee Simmons line of clothes.....
They are totally Baby Phat because that's the KLS trademark cat design on them...

do not ASK how I know this given that I hate KLS and Baby Phat... i just do. I'll hide in my corner now.
