    I flew into and out of JFK once. It's a pretty cool airport. And the Cincinnati airport isn't bad either. Personally, I like the shopping in both.
    If you're ever here again, drop me a note. We could have an adult beverage or two while you're waitin' for your connection.

      Been there, done that. The laughing that is...

      <snipped for awesomeness>

      Karma in frickin action, baby.

      I was laughing my ass off after that.
      I had this the other day when driving back from Arlington, TX to San Antonio. I'm driving at 75 in the inside lane (65 zone). Speeding a little but its the freeway so oh well. Some douchbag pulls up behind me in his Porche Cayenne and sits on my ass for a mile or so. I have a strict 'Hold their ass up' policy. Douchebag flashes me with his lights. I decide its no longer worth sticking to policy and move to the inside lane...realising as soon as I do so that sitting on the grass verge is a fine member of constabulary. I grin and wait...sure enough he pulls into traffic...moves to the inside lane...and turns on those lovely flashing lights. Me and my GF begin evil laughter.

        I'm trying to think of any airport I've been in that is uglier and nastier than Newark.
        Timika International Airport

        This is an airport in the tropics. When I was flying into it, the total passenger terminal was a small tin shed next to the runway. Despite being an "International" airport with customs ETC, it had no instrument landing facility.

        So in the wet season, a plane would fly from Cairns in North Queensland, with no idea of the weather, or cloud conditions. In the tropics they change by the minute, anyway. If the plane arrived in the afternoon, and the clouds had closed in, all they could do is circle until they found a hole in the clouds. If there was no hole they had to circle until they ran low on fuel, then they would fly to Biak International Airport and stay overnight there, refuel and hope that the next morning the clouds were gone.

        That was fine until the company I was working for, stopped flying their own planes and started using a charter service from Indonesia. One time the pilots were not given enough money to fully refuel the plane in Cairns, and when they got to Timeka they were nearly out of fuel. They circled and circled, then finally found a hole in the clouds right over the airport.

        I won't go into what happened some other times. Some of the people involved might not like my version of events. But it was not a happy time to be flying into or out of that airport.

          Ohmigod... I've been on that Timika (Timeka?) airport too! It was 16 years ago when my parents were planning to go to Jayapura right by the east border to Papua. The flight had to land to Timika because of a tropical storm and I remember I ran from the plane to the bus and the water on the taxiway was ankle-deep... We were placed in some hotel nearby the airport for the night and next morning we departed again. It was nice to see that the taxiway and whole airport were steaming I was 7 at the time so I don't quite remember all.

            You are correct it is Timika 16 years ago would have been when I was flying in and out of that airport every 2 weeks (or so).

                  Mmm, shopping, though I must admit there are two things I tend to get when I'm in America: Food, and suits. ^.^ That, or video games, but I'm an American food addict, I just love Cheerios so much, pretzels, waffles, pancakes, steak, yoghurt. . . .

                  Can't wait to go up in May now!
