Oh, and since I forgot to ask earlier. HP? I don't think I've ever heard of that brand.

You got that right. I wouldn't care for skirt or butt steak without a good sauce, but a sirlion or filet--that would border on a crime.Quoth wagegoth View PostSteak sauce is to cover up cheap cuts or bad cooking. Some people like steak sauce the same way other people like catsup: they're so used to the taste that they can't imagine not having it or their taste buds are fried.
Sounds good. If it rains too hard for grilling tomorrow (BIL bringing GF), I'll try that.Quoth Can I Help Your A$$? View PostA good steak CAN be improved with sauce: sauce that's made out of the steak itself!
If you leave the fond (brown bits) in the pan, de-glaze it with a little wine, or, french-style, a little heavy cream (mmmmm)! Let the wine reduce; but don't let the cream boil. This is now a perfect compliment to a perfect steak.
You can also use a little stock, or beer for the liquid.
On the OP. I'm glad to hear that the manager banned his bratty ass. Nice tough to welcome the rest of his family.
For CSG's sake, I hope the tip didn't go entirely to the cleaning bill.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I put the a-1 into the meat gloop that makes the burgers, seems to work better that way. Also a thin schmear of a-1 on to p of a meatloaf before you bake it so it cooks into a glaze, nomnomnom~!Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View PostI must admit, I do like A-1 sauce on hamburgers.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

let me introduce you to club sauceQuoth bunnyboy View Postbah steak sauces should be based on one thing, the brown bits if pan made, a deglazing agent, and spices.... used to use A1, but now.... mmmm i discovered the wonderful world of pan sauices... that COMPLIMENT the favor (which is what asauce for something as flavorful as a rare steak should do.)
btw 57 dollars for a bill about half that, wunderbar.
a proper sauce using a glace de viande and other prime ingredients can be absolutely fragging amazing.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

I use HP and tamarind paste and some other goodies to make the nummy brown liquidy chutney stuff in my favorite indian place ... you can buy it premade, but it is fun making your own =)Quoth LibraryLady View PostWe've had the A-One and HP debate in our house. Hubby was brought up with A-One but, because there was a story in a local paper about UK ex-pats in our neighborhood, he wanted to try HP.
He found HP a little too sweet for his taste. The odd thing is that he never used steak sauce on his steak. He mixes a little in the vinegar and oil to make a dressing for the salad that he enjoys with his beef. Go figure.
It is a bit sweet, that is why it seems to go better with pork, never thought to turn it into dressing but I might have to get a new bottle and do that soon.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

Mom would absolutely kill me if I dared to put sauce on filet.
I was brought up on A-1, but thanks to a friend in Belfast have discovered mushroom ketchup as well as Goodall's of Dublin steak sauce.
Now I want steak...Last edited by Dreamstalker; 05-22-2009, 11:16 PM."I am quite confident that I do exist."

Oh, pshaw, rain doesn't stop grilling around here. Hell, I've been out on the porch grilling while it's snowing. Which is a unique experience. I use HP and tomato sauce for a quick cheap sauce to go with noodles (ramen/super noodles) it's simply X amount of brown sauce combined with two to three times the amount of tomato saucealong with some of the water that you boil the noodles in makes for a nice slightly spicy sauce.I am the nocturnal echo-locating flying mammal man.

This sounds like one of my wife's uncles. He is notoriously horrible to wait staff in restaurants. The rest of the family usually ends up embarrassed, and trying to make up for it.
I also had a friend one time give a waitress a hard time over his meal, and he only stopped when I told him to shut up because I was sick of hearing his bitching. I've never gone to dinner with him since that time. If the food is bad enough or the service is horrible, I refuse to leave a tip, but otherwise I try to be gracious when dining out. I don't throw temper tantrums, and I don't like others throwing temper tantrums.
