Oddly enough, I just saw someone on the Food Network last night making panna cotta with those. She said you could also use the powder, though.

I've never seen the leaves in any store I've ever been to.

I feel your pain OP as I do work in a supermarket that has a liquor section attached.

I have been asked if we sell the following:

-eskies.
-umbrellas.
-Children's Panadol (whichn weirdly enough we DON''T carry)
-Gelatine LEAVES. Not the liquid stuff, not the powder, actual LEAVEs.

And then there's the customers who go past four or five registers to come to me, who is clearly serving, and ask where the service desk is!

Please! For the love of all that is holy, STOP complaining we have items that are listed in Spanish as well as English! And quit threatening to call immigration because we have Spanish speakers working here! And quit saying that because some items are listed in Spanish, they are therefore made in Mexico and are not safe by U.S. standards! The majority of our products are made right here in San Antonio!

Texas is a minority majority state. Meaning there are more non-white people than white people living here. You're in the minority. 75% of my customers speak little to no English. It's not even just Spanish speakers. I get a lot of Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese through my line as well.

It is important that we have the Spanish translations so that they can have some help. Otherwise, how is that good customer service? In many foriegn countries, they have English translations on their services for tourists. You don't complain about THAT, do you?

Look, you know you're in a state with that is near the border with Mexico. Texas was once PART of Mexico. (Texas history is mandatory in school here, so you should know that.) I realize that you think the immigrants are gonna come and take your job and dog and truck and beer away, but I guarantee that you somewhere down the line came from somewhere else. I know for a fact my ancestors came from Germany and Russia, as little as 50 years ago.

I used to live in San Antonio, and was at first taken back by the whole bilingual thing. (I am originally from Michigan, not that it's an excuse) But, I got over that in about....oh... a day. I miss good ole H.E.B. We used to live just down the road from one...me and my mom were there almost everyday, cause you know, "they might put something new on the shelf" That's an exact quote from my mom!! LOL
But I was amazed at the people who were natives to the area, and I swear, they complained everyday because heaven forbid someone said "hola" or something else in spanish. I always just nodded and smiled....having someone speak to me in another language is not a crime, and it didn't hurt me any...so what's the big deal?

....buh? I think it would be sort of a health risk if we had our employees cut hair. There is a Cost Cutters three doors down from us, go there. There have been people who wonder why our store isn't connected with the big strip of shops down the sidewalk. Wow. Stupid AND lazy.

ugh. That's gross.

Sigh, people just want Walmart Supercenters. They want to get their prescriptions, get their hair cut, buy new tires for their car, eat dunkin donuts, and pick up some toilet paper all without walking more than a few yards.

Anyone who has seen Wall-E knows where we're heading.

Have you ever been working somewhere and have people ask you for things you clearly do not sell? Or think you have a business within a business in the store that is absolutely insane?

I work in a grocery store. Yes, we do sell things that aren't food. We sometimes sell furniture and pool accessories. We sell cheap DVDs and even fans now that it's summer and we're in a record-breaking drought. (In case you haven't been reading the news, Texas is frickin' HOT. Even moreso than usual.)

Back to my previous point. Here are some things I have been asked at my place of work.

'Do you have a bank here?'

This one isn't so strange, because an HEB down the road from us has a bank inside, a lot of businesses do. We are planning on putting a bank in sometime next year. But still, look around and tell me if you see one.

'Can I get my hair cut here?'
