The mayor of Ipswich made an awesome statement on national TV this morning:

'Looters should be used as flood markers'

I loved this quote So Australian.

My Friends parents have a farm in Postmans Ridge. They still have their house standing, but have lost everything in it as well as cars, machinery and sheds. They are currently staying in (a non flodded part of) Toomoomba with her Grandparents.

Have been watching the videos and footage of Brisbane slowly going under. It is really scary

my neighbour has lost his business near Forest Hill, and many of my colleagues are caught up in the floods in Toowoomba, Gatton, Ipswich and Brisbane. With the Warrego closed, it is going to be interesting when we go back to work tomorrow.

Timtams are chocolate biscuits, and while they are really yummy, there nothing to argue over, especially when people have lost everything.

Timtams are heaven in cookie form.

However, if I get cut off by floods, whatever's in the army's standard ration pack will do me. Or whatever staples the SES (state emergency service), red cross, army, Salvos, Lifeline, or whomever handles my area makes available.

One old hag was whinging that she'll run out of timtams and why aren't the helicopters bring things like that for her...

Lady, there are 90 or so missing in this area, there are people totally stranded...

I just had to walk away... i was utterly disgusted.

i know tim tams are a food group in their own but have a bit of perspective lady.

I live in SE QLD too, but fortunately outside the majorly affected areas. I live close to the coast in the Redlands, we've had it pretty much as normal out this way. As a result of all the flooding though, I've had a couple of days of/half days from work since the places I would be working at were all impossible to get to, or damaged.

A bit west in Goodna there is an RSL at the top of a hill. Across the road and down the hill, there's a footy field. Basically 800m x 500m of space below and opposite the RSL. Turns out, the RSL is underwater. Which would put that massive area at 15-18 metres under water. Incredible.

Going to mean work for me... I work in the Gaming industry doing repairs; 280 poker machines underwater at that site alone. Not looking forward to repairing and replacing that crap >.<

Ended up buying a pack because they were half-price... the ONLY thing in the store that was a decent price. $7.99 per kilo for Broccoli and $6.49 per (small) head of cauliflower. Even so, they were sold out! All the normal milk is gone, as is the bread. Thankfully our kindy uses UHT milk so Jazzy is used to it, it's only Bubbles that might refuse it. Otherwise, the cupboards are full. Yay for bulk-buying and being prepared!

I did a shop this week and managed to get everything I needed. We only drink long life milk so that wasn't a problem and I managed to get 4 loves of bread so our cupboards are pretty well stocked too.

I'm in Victoria, but lived in Toowoomba for 15 years and Brissie/Sunshine Coast for 10. So far my friends and family have been lucky, only my dad was flooded out, but he had evaced before it hit.

Heard on the news that 10 people have been arrested for looting, and that can carry a 10 year sentence. The cops and pollies are saying that looters had better hope its the cops that catch them, and not the locals. I agree. You get caught looting, you deserve a world of hurt.

Yeah the penalty is double the pentaly for ordinary theft. At least 3 people have been nipped for "claiming" boats as their own, too. Over in Ipswich there has been major profiteering from the shops that didn't go under, charging $10-12 for a loaf of bread etc. But, that's Ipswich for you.

It was the same here. We also got MP's thrown into the mix. I'm fairly certain the looters didn't wanna get caught by them, either...

Here, it was mostly housing space that was in short supply. Despite the laws that quote-"prevent"-unquote price gouging on apartments and other housing here, we heard many stories of $500, one-room apartments being rented out for upwards of three thousand per month...Housing was hard to get in some areas, but not THAT scarce...

I think it would be appropriate to offer him a discount on his order, then send him the desired items from the flood damaged stock of the flooded store.
