There's this guy I used to work with. He was pretty stout. Built like a brick shithouse.

He currently has stage 4 cancer. I don't know exactly what that means, but I assume it is very bad. I don't like the sound of that stage 4.

He's been on chemo for quite a while. He's literally wasting away. His head now seems too large for the rest of his body. It is absolutely shocking to see him that way. He certainly doesn't have the energy to work himself up into screaming tantrums over video games, or anything else for that matter.

I've heard there's going to be a benefit for him and I'm thinking of going, but I don't know the details yet.

If this Dave dude is on chemo, then I'm a grilled cheese sandwich.

Stage IV cancers have often metastasized, or spread to other organs or throughout the body. Patients who have stage IV colon cancer, for example, have an average 5-year survival of approximately 5%.

But many won't look sick at all if they are off chemo until they are almost dead...

Absolutely have to add my vote to the "Ban Dave STAT!" crowd. Regardless if he's telling the truth or not, his behaviour is completely ban-worthy. I'm so sorry you've had to put up with that

According to Wiki (which is probably accurate about something like this), stage IV is still localized, and it's stage V that's metastasized.

And I can't gather why Dave hasn't been given the boot long ago. But now that he's actually committed vandalism, it should be a no-brainer that he's not allowed back.

I don't care what Dave has, he needs to be BANNED stat! He caused a scene, destroyed company property and assaulted you (he did throw things at you, after all). Make it clear to management that you will NOT serve him in ANY way (no looking something up, answering a question, whatever) and they better do something or next time you're pressing charges.

If Dave had never mentioned cancer, would you allow him to behave that way in your store?

OK, I don't know if you have the authority to ban him, but someone should. Not just for destroying property. Anyone who comes into a store and bellows at people over and over again is causing a disturbance. People have been banned before for screaming at employees or other customers. This guy is an idiot, cancer or no cancer.

You know, at least for breast cancer, it's more likely you'll gain weight, not lose it. That's how well they've corrected the chemotherapy "illness" problem (nausea and such). One of my coworkers had breast cancer and gained several pounds. Of course, it depends on the drugs. They'll all have their own effects. But it's no longer true that treatment will always make you sick and thin.

I tend to feel like there's a real limit to how much special treatment anyone should get. A little consideration is one thing, but I don't care what's wrong with you, you have no right to walk all over everyone and scream at them. And if you're demanding special treatment, all bets are off.

Another vote to ban Dave. His behaviour doesn't make me believe his cancer story for a minute. Cancer is a draining illness and the treatment usually compounds that.

And, as others have said, so what if he does have cancer? A helluva lot of people do but they don't behave like dickheads. There's no reason his (alleged) cancer would give him that right either.

Just wanted to chime in that I totally understand the dealing with the asshats in regard to your art! Lordy have I ever had some doozy requests myself!

I actually recently had a customer come in and take a look at my artwork I had out on my desk and practically demand that I draw a picture of her and she wanted my text number and she'd send me the reference picture. I barely had time to say no! Not to mention all the disgusting, inappropriate requests.

Don't mean to threadjack, but I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

You know what you do with a guy who demands you draw something you're uncomfortable with to satisfy his fetish and abuses you when you refuse... YOU OUT HIS FETISH. Complain on the art site's message board, after reporting his abuse to the administration. Do it before he complains about you. But you have soooooo much information on him, and he dares to treat you like that? He won't know what hit him.

I'm firmly entrenched in the Perma-Ban Dave camp. Even if he does have cancer...so do a lot of other people, and there are a lot of other terrible diseases out there that cause people pain and suffering every day, some even eventually leading to death. Nobody gets special treatment at the video game store just for that, especially an asswipe like Dave. Pathetic loser...

As for your art, good God...if you don't want to draw something you shouldn't have to draw it, whether it's due to your own personal morals/ethics or because you just think it's icky. How dare they threaten you for saying no...

                            Another vote for ban Dave.

As for the art... You are not alone when it comes to asswipes who do that sorta crap.
                            For example:

Don't be bullied by them. If they continue to demand or threaten... Draw them a stick figure.
Wait a minute... I thought I recognised that icon...

Another vote to drop the ban hammer on Dave. He doesn't have cancer, he is a cancer.

Hell, I'm tempted to snark at him and "congratulate" him on managing to maintain a high weight while on chemotherapy, and remark that my grandmother, when she contracted leukemia, lost a ton of weight very quickly, and she'd had quite a, ah, "healthy" weight before hand.

Far be it for me to actually wish ill on someone, but Cancer Dave deserves some kind of karmic retribution for his behavior.

As to the art entitlement assholes, I'll agree that what they're trying to commission is squicky, and they should ALWAYS keep in mind something that my ex-GF heard while at some of the fetish fairs. "Your kink is not my kink." It was a phrase meant to remind people to be tolerant of other people's tastes. It goes doubly so for artists. They reserve the right to reject commission offers if it goes against their personal tastes and/or beliefs, even if they could use the money.

                                Dave.

Dave is either a con-artist or does not care if he lives, if he does not care about himself why should you when he acts the way he does.

Really! Chemo is to keep you alive, who would skip chemo for bargain bin games?

First day for the newest Halo, or the newest FF with a line wrapped around the block I could believe. Skipping chemo to get a cheap game that will be there after your treatment. No way!

If anyone is so dumb as to do such a thing, you don't want them arround you - because they are CRAZY IN THE HEAD!

                                Ban him.
