  • One thing that may help PS3/PS4 players (if you have the game on 3, you get the client for 4, for free): See if your TV has a "Game Mode" or "PC Mode" setting. This should remove the delay caused by post-processing effects automatically applied by TVs, and may save 100ms of travel time or so.

    ------------

Okay, Okay, Okay, I'll admit -- this game is damn pretty.

Healed the first boss in Ammen Vale... as SUMMONER... BY MYSELF... because the Scholar healer sucked ass.

      Seriously?

I was level 48. He was level 49, and spec'd full MIND.
When I got out of the dungeon, I swapped to my SCH set (still spec'd almost full INT) and my heals were hitting for higher numbers than his were. HOW DOES THAT WORK!?

Also, pay attention to who your faerie is healing before you start spamming stuff. Also-also, while the faerie is nice to help make up for the fact that WHM/CNJ get Cure Potency traits that you don't, you don't need it to heal on certain fights. The trick is knowing that WASTING 6 SECONDS TO RESUMMON YOUR FAERIE - THAT WILL JUST DIE AGAIN - WILL MEAN DEATH FOR EVERYONE. (And if the SUMMONER can heal the fight with just Physick, I think you can handle healing the fight by yourself with ALL OF YOUR ABILITIES.)

Gah. Sorry for the rant. That just... that just frustrated my soooo badly. ;_; Anyway. About to hit 50 tonight (tiny little bit of EXP bar left) and then ONWARDS TO AWESOMENESS.

      • Makes me wonder if he put all his stats in mind, but was wearing all Int gear...

The one thing I like about the final instances, especially AK and Garuda/Titan, is that they really start to weed out the bad healers and tanks. Those fights just require a strong tank/heal combo (good DPS too, mind you, but their screwups don't always mean wipes ). Every time I go DPS and see a bad healer, they're always the guy saying things like "I don't get it man, I've tried to run this 9 times and we can never win!" Yeah, because you never use Esuna and try to heal through disease like an idiot.

Same goes for tanks...if the healer is tanking more than the tank is, odds are you have a shitty tank...ran into a few of those farming HM Ifrit with my guildies...

        • Three questions answered by Camate earlier today on the official forums:
          "MVP" System
          Greetings, everyone!
I'd like to give a brief official overview of the "MVP" system that was announced by Yoshida during TGS, as there is a lot of interest in how this will encourage players to be positive and helpful when using the Duty Finder.
This system is for groups that get matched in the Duty Finder and cannot be used when you pre-make parties to enter dungeons and other content. Once you clear the content, you'll be able to vote for a player you feel was helpful, positive, and friendly.
Accumulating these points will allow you to buy companion armor, new mounts, and other exclusive items.
This system is scheduled to be implemented in patch 2.1, and once further details have been finalized we will be sure to share them with you!
          Right-click "add to blacklist" feature
          Greetings,
I apologize for the long wait for a response on this.
The development team has been working on the implementation of the right click to blacklist feature, and is planning to implement it in patch 2.1.
Dev response on long queue times for certain instances
          Hello,
The development team is aware of the long wait times to reserve instances, and as mentioned by Yoshida during the Tokyo Game Show, we'll be increasing the amount of instance servers in mid-October to help alleviate this issue.

          =======================================

Also -- waiting on translation: Server transfers are set to begin in the next couple of weeks "or so", and may well be FREE for the first five days! Soooo....anyone not particularly attached to their current server? Or wanna bring yer friends over to Sarg ? ^_^ I'll draft you into the FC if ya come along. We don't bite... Hard. >_>

          PS:

More mass bannings of RMTs and clients and such.

If you have over 8 million gil, or have had an auction purchased by an RMT or vice versa...well, you've probably already been given a temporary suspension x.x

Nope. He was spec'd full Mind, and had all healer gear on (so more mind.)

I was spec'd full INT, but had 4/5 SCH AF (no chestpiece since, ya know, only 48 at the time) and then a few odds and ends healing accessories that were still level 30 and then an Aetherial Woolen Robe.

So... I don't know what was going on, but my test heals on myself were hitting for more than his were hitting.

Anyone have a level 50 SCH spec'd all MIND (with only AF-1 gear equivalents) and can tell me what their Physik, Succor, and Adloquim are hitting for?

            It's making me wonder if I'd still be a perfectly viable healer as a full-int SCH {Since, ya know, having to drop 10K each switch is just... painful.} Sure I'd have to work harder, but I'm used to that anyway {see previous comment about healing the Ammen Vale fight as SMN with only Physik.}

Also--- YAY RIGHT CLICK TO BLACKLIST. THANK YOU SQUEENIX.

            Oh, additional aside;

If the Summoner in your party pulls out Titan, feel ashamed. If the Summoner is tanking with Titan better than you were, please play a different class or practice on lower level dungeons first.

            • I think what most Scholars don't realize is Physik is patently better than Adloquium in most situations.

I've only got my Scholar at level 32 and I've healed Braflox 3 times so I can't say I'm pro. But, the first time I healed Braflox we wiped at the final boss. It was because I dropped the ball and the tank died.

Going into the fight the second time I looked at what I could do better and realized two things. 1, the shield Adloqium was putting up was being dropped in one tag from the boss anyway. 2, Physik costs less mp and heals more than Adloqium does. I healed with nothing but Physik the second time and had 0 issues with the fight.

The next two times I ran Brayflox I found it better to use Ad on trash groups and Physik on bosses.

As a Warrior I've found I actually prefer having Arcanists/Summoners use their tank pet. I ask them to sic it on one of the mobs I'm not focusing on. It makes me take less damage, and is one less mob that might go after the healer since two mobs out of the group have a dedicated tank on them. Again though, my warrior is only 31 so I can't say its the best strategy, but it works early on.

              Comment

              • I don't like using Titan in groups because really, as a Tank you should be able to hold the aggro and take the damage (as long as the Healer is awake and at the keyboard.) It means that my DPS gets cut by quite a bit (considering two of my spells BUFF my pets damage and one of them is literally just letting the pet use an uber attack) which just means that pulls take longer than they should have to. Also, tanking is your job... not mine. If it turns out that I have to use Titan to get us through things, I will. I have him, I will use him. But I really shouldn't have to.

Also, Adlo heals for more than Physik, effectively. It puts up a shield that is for the SAME amount as what you healed, which means that while Physik heals for say 300, Adlo heals for 230 and puts on a 230 shield. That means Adlo healed for 460 effective health.

The shield dropping means that the tank took however much damage less than what you healed for.

I'll give you my numbers as my SCH to show you.

My Physick heals for 566 base. That's just 566 health that the tank got back.
My Adlo heals for 436 base, then applies a 436 shield. That means the tank gained effectively 872 health. (It crit the first go around for 694, which means the tank would've gained 1388 effective health.)

So, Physick does NOT heal for more than Adlo, technically.

What is Adlo good for? Preventing damage. You know a big ability is about to go off? Hit the tank and give him a shield to help absorb it. Tank is at near full health but you need to heal others? Well using Physick would be an over heal, but the shield ignores the fact that he's at full health and gives him effectively MORE than his maximum health back.

Succor heals for less but it + Sacred soil can really help prevent damage on multiple party members if they are positioned correctly. My Succor does about 250, which means everyone would have a 250 shield prior to damage occurring, and then take 10% less damage if they are on my Sacred soil.

                • Adlo only technically heals for more if your tank needed to be healed for the full amount Adlo healed for.

Which is another point most bad healers I've seen fail to realize. You don't need to heal the tank all the time. In fact it's possible to over heal.

My main point about Physik being better is that it is more MP efficient in the long run and the damage prevention from Adlo is not always necessary.

One thing I did I think many scholars don't is I set up macros to make managing my Fairy easier. I set up the square target marker on the tank and have it so whenever I cast Physick or Adlo the fairy casts its heal on the target marked with the Square. That way I can spot heal other party members and my Fairy will continue to heal the tank when I'm not.

                  Comment

                  • I've only been experimenting with Scholar a bit so far (I enjoy WHM a lot), but I do like that you can also bind the fairy heal to your hotbar, and forcibly cast it manually. I've had a lot of times where I need to get 2 heals off fast, and it's awesome to be able to fairy heal one guy and main heal at the same time. Does require some fast target switching to do it that way, but you can make mouseover macros to make it easier.

As far as Adlo shields go, it's basically the same way that Stoneskin works: it won't absorb MUCH damage, but sometimes the little bit it does absorb goes a long way. For instance, on Titan HM, the shields from Succor and Adlo make a huge difference during that fight, especially if you combine a WHM's regen abilities with the shield itself. The shield isn't designed to be something that protects you for more than a hit or two, so effective timing is key. The same is often true of Stoneskin; I rarely cast it mid-battle, but there are some fights where getting it on the tank right before a huge hit (again, like Titan HM) can save the fight.

The thing I run into a lot on the other side of healing with WHM is seeing the large number of healers who don't seem to understand that bigger doesn't equal better. Any time I see a WHM spamming Cure II, and never using Cure, I know we're in for a rough time. For anyone planning on leveling Conjurer, allow me to lend some advice...

Cure, at high enough level, procs a trait called Freecure - this makes your next Cure II free to cast. Now, Cure II has twice the MP cost of Cure, but does just under double the healing (Cure is 300 potency, Cure II is 540), so spamming it is far less MP efficient over time, unless you have no choice but to panic heal. Ideally, you should be using Cure to keep people going, and hit Cure II in emergencies or when Freeheal hits.

Cure III should rarely be used; it costs twice what Cure II does, but heals for less since it's an AOE heal...yet I still see WHMs spamming it on a tank when no one else is damaged! Even with Overheal (trait that procs on Cure II, makes Cure III a guaranteed crit) it is rarely needed. Only fights like the Demon Wall really open up the skill's potential. Don't spam it!

Lastly, don't use Regen at the end of a fight...most tanks don't notice it's still up, pull a new pack of trash mobs, and bam, they're all aggroed on you. Regen at the start, and maybe even middle of a fight, then use Cure to survive until the end. Same goes for Medica II at 50.

Best x-class skills to get for WHM: Swiftcast (THM), Surecast (THM), Virus (ACN, need for Titan HM)

For anyone planning on leveling Conjurer, allow me to lend some advice...
Personally, when healing as WHM, I use Cure the majority of the time, only using Cure II when they drop low because of a big attack, or if freecure fires off (since it only lasts 15 seconds and is a free heal, might as well use it to top someone off) If it is a fight where I know I'm going to be needing to doing a lot of healing at a set time, I will request that we keep limit break for the healing ability and/or will pop Presence of Mind - granted it only lasts 10 seconds, but the speed boost can make a difference.

I try to avoid using Medica unless it is completely unavoidable since it is very inefficient compared to cure, requiring 3 times the mana and having less potency, plus requiring party members to be within a set range of you to be healed by it.

Really the only time I see Cure III being even remotely efficient is when Overcure procs, which guarantees a critical heal from Cure III (requires using Cure II to be able to proc)

Still need to work on levelling THM though, I've been focussing primarily on WHM, so I'm still missing complimentary skills besides virus and physick (ACN)

                              • Ended up transferring an old character that ended up on Masamune [JP] server over to Sargatanas since I don't know enough Japanese to be able to play on the server the character ended up on - how much I actually use it though is yet to be seen, since I am still enjoying myself on Malboro server.

If anyone is planning on shifting characters around, do it while they are still offering free transfers - it ends in a few days, after which point, a character transfer will cost a whopping 20 euro, from what I have been told.

                                Roses are red,
