Watched it with my older daughter (family of Whovians here) and planning to introduce the little one soon - boxed set of 9th, 10th doctor dvds on its way for christmas.

The main issue with the show is does that now make Tennant officially the 11th and Smith the 12th doctors? If so then that'll muck up a lot of posters/t-shirts around.

Lots of laughs, lots of serious, quite a bit of sad and, all in all, a wonderful show.

The line in the show that had my daughter in tears was Tennant's last line in the show. Whited below:
    "...I don't want to go."
I think they'll still go with the notion that the War Doctor is sort of "outside the numbering system" so they don't muck with Tennant = Tenth, Smith = Eleventh, etc.

My favorite parts of the episode:
+ War Doctor, Ten, and Eleven realizing how to escape the cell
+ How they actually escape the cell
+ How the Doctors resolve the conflict over using the Moment
    + The Curator

I was a fan of this exchange:
    Eleven: "Geronimo!"
    Ten: "Allons-y!"
War Doctor: "Oh, for god's sake!"

I think Hurt will always just be "War Doctor" and not an official regeneration, so to speak. Just as no one really ever talks about "10.5/Metacrisis Doctor/Handy" that was created in the series 4 finale. And even after Hurt was introduced last year, they still referred to Capaldi as the Twelfth.

      Which by the way . . .

      "No sir, all THIRTEEN!"

      Best two seconds ever.
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Ended up with a loooong discussion once about whether the Doctor's named the Doctor because of doctors, or if (in universe) doctors are called doctors because of the Doctor. It's nice to have something geeky to have debates over (ended up deciding it was a chicken/egg question in the end).

Capaldi'll make a good doctor I think, although I'll probably always see him as the Angel Islington. Neil Gaiman link there too, which is quite fitting.

Why did he have to say that line again?!?!?! I am actually looking forward to where they are taking this now. I love Day of the Doctor

I watched it yesterday on Space, both times it was on. It was awesome!

            My thoughts on it:

-Tennant's last line of the episode did break my heart. A nice callback to the last episode of his run, but still as hard to hear it now as it was then. I may love Smith, but Tennant will always be my Doctor.

-Like Jay mentioned, how the Doctors got out of the cell. Hilarious, but not surprising in the least. Oh Doctor, no matter your incarnation, you're still a silly boy.

-It was nice to see (spoilers: Ten's marriage to Elizabeth I. I know it was mentioned in The End of Time, but I did want to actually see it happen, so I'm glad they finally showed it.)

-Seeing who the curator was brought a big smile to my face. Spoilers: While Tom Baker isn't my favourite classic Doctor (McCoy is), it was still really cool seeing a classic Doctor brought in for the 50th anniversary. And it makes sense that he would be the one chosen, since in many people's minds, he is the Doctor.

-And at the end, what the Doctor plans on doing. He's gonna bring back Gallifrey and the Time Lords! Squee! I wonder now if that's what this year's Christmas special is going to be about. Or are they going to save it for Season Eight and Capaldi's Doctor?

-And I liked Hurt's Doctor. It's too bad that he was only around for the Last Great Time War. I would have loved to see more adventures from him in comic book, book, or audiobook form.

And Kal, I think that the Time Lord chose the name "Doctor" because he wants to be like doctors, helping people wherever he goes. And with all the time travelling he does, people in the far past heard his name, associated it with helping people, and so chose it as their word for a profession that does.
I think he therefore ended up unintentionally creating the very word he chose to name himself after.

And I'm not sure about Capaldi as the Doctor yet. I'm sure he'll be great, but since he has previously played Caecilius in The Fires of Pompeii, and John Frobisher in Torchwood's Children of Earth, I'm worried I'll just keep picturing them every time he's on the screen, and that it'll spoil my enjoyment of his Doctor.
Oh well. I'll just have to wait and see. Please, Capaldi, win me over. Make me forget that you played those two. Make me see you as just the Doctor.

There is a preview up for the Christmas special which hints at this. Spoilers: this shows his return to Trenzalore, suggesting a resolution to the 'fall of the eleventh' hint that has been thrown around for a while. It seems to make sense (to me, at least) to leave Gallifrey as something for Twelve, like River's mystery was for Eleven.

Well, that's a new quirk on the theory. Does make sense though, he picked up the word in the future, took it to the past where they took it and used it in the future, where he picked it up... We're now at "chicken came first, laid egg, same chicken hatched from egg, went back in time, laid the egg etc...) stage.

Not unlike the fez in this episode.

Eleven found the fez in the Under-gallery and threw it through the time tunnel, where it ended up in the possession of Liz One.

It was in the Under-gallery because it was important to Liz One and so kept it there for Eleven to find.

These are the numbers that Eleven carved into the stone.

The one question I have from the special is about Gallifrey Falls No More - how was it made? By whom? Because that would probably help answer the question of how it came to be in Elizabeth's collection.

The way Time Lords create art makes me wonder a whole hell of a lot about the Braxiatel Collection...I'm suddenly very interested in his gallery.

Agreed. There is a really weird comment in an article in the Telegraph that says the following:

"Eccleston was the only surviving Doctor not to take part in the 50th anniversary episode."

Either this is SUPER wrong (always possible) or it's a major slip.
                              .
I could swear I saw him in the Doctor's line up at the very end.

SPOILER ALERT! Highlight between here At the very end of the episode we get to see Matt Smith interact with Tom Baker. I think Baker regrets not appearing in the 5 Doctors episode, one of the most popular of the show (they used video clips to create the illusion he was in the episode). Eccleston may later regret not having an active role in Day of the Doctor. and here.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

In the theater, they showed a making of feature where they show that scene being filmed. There is actually another person standing where Eccleston is, wearing the same clothes, but with a bunch of dots on his face that they used to map the CGI face onto him (same with the other doctors, including the younger Tom Baker). So, alas, it wasn't really him.
"That's too bad. Hospitals aren't fun to fight through."
"What IS fun to fight through?"
"Gardens. Electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy."
