I got exactly what I asked for from my kids and my mom - new kitchen towels, a comforter for the bed, "This is It" DVD of Michael Jackson, 2 video games that I didn't ask for but LOVE!, and socks!

From the DH - well he tries hard! A new set of cookware, pots/pans, etc., which I desperately needed - we've been married 20 years! All non-stick YAY ... but all have to be handwashed

I spent much of the day with Mom at the nursing home. Brother had sent her a couple of gifts: a photo calendar, a Christmas Karaoke toy microphone with a songbook ... and a Grumpy in the Fridge Grinch.

The Grinch was a smashing success. It's got a repertoire of about 8 comments and it's motion-activated. We spent some time trying to figure out if we could attach it to her door so it would sound off anytime a staff member came in or went out.

I have not yet opened my own gifts, but I find myself seriously hoping brother sent me a Grumpy in the Fridge Grinch as well.

We had a Secret Santa at school and I got a goodie basket with cocoa, marshmallows, candy, cookies, etc. We're also having one at work but it's been scheduled for early in January.

            The big stuff:

            Two Nooks (from different people)
An Amazon gift card (yes, the irony that I have Amazon credit and a Barnes and Noble product does not escape me - but I shop both)
sweet, sweet handmade texting gloves (no fingers - they basically look like the end of a sweater sleeve with a hole for the thumb)

            Other stuff:
Assorted lip balms, salves, and "preventive maintenance" vitamin stuff (I think my mom thinks I'm always sick...)
A retractable tape measure (...we...do...have one of those....)
A lot of candy (including evil, evil delicious habanero jelly beans)
A cookbook (seriously direly needed here - each of us can cook about 3 specialty dishes, and I can bake, and that's about it)

As some of you know, I lived in a women's shelter for a few months. The one thing they don't get that they desperately need? Hair products for black women's hair. Their hair is different from Caucasian type hair. It requires different products. The cheapo Suave products don't work. The next time you're in the store, pick up some of the oils and such meant for that type of hair and drop it off at your local shelter. I promise you that the women who receive those products will be more grateful than you could ever imagine.
This is very true - lived in a shelter myself for about three weeks. Shared my bleaching kit at the time, but pretty much the only hair stuff around was cheapo shampoo/conditioner combined from hotels. I've been looking for ways to do stuff for others this year, and I think that's a great idea. Next time I get into town, I'll do that. I'm going to message you about something else I thought of.

              I got up.

              Nothing new.

No new aches, internal disturbances, or hello!balucinations.

At my age, a GOOD Christmas.

Christmas, for me, is way more about the giving. I got my parents $100 in gift cards to Granite City Brewpub, $20 gift cards to Barnes and Noble, and a renewal of their Sam's Club membership. My sister I gave a bottle of wine, an electric wine opener, and a $50 gift card to Target. Brother in law $100 gift card to Fleet Farm. Niece $50 gift card to a store called Justice, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims book, and $50 in cash. Nephew $50 iTunes gift card, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims book, and 2 Lego books.

I got $250 cash from my parents, a $40 card to Fleet Farm, a $25 gift card to Best Buy, and Schell's Chimney Sweep Beer. I've used my cards to get a Garmin Nuvi GPS from BB, and 2 boxes of ammo for my .38 from Fleet Farm.

I got a surprise gift from the women in my mom's church's women's club today. It was a $200 gift card to a specialty lingerie shop. I've lost a lot of weight recently and my bras were fitting horribly. I was able to get properly fitted and get 4 bras that actually fit. I'm ecstatic! I'm also floored at what my actual size is, but I changed out of the one I was wearing and wore one of the new ones all day, and oh, heavens! The difference is amazing!

I got a new shower curtain and towels (which I think I want to exchange for a different color as they are a little too close to my wall color...too much green. I wanted dark brown for more contrast in the room).

a memory foam mat for my kitchen
                              a microwave pasta pot
a box of angel hair pasta
gift cards for Old Navy, Target, and Barnes & Noble
                              a Peanuts ornament
a little saucepan with pour spouts on the sides
                              a weather radio
                              a box of pudding mix
cans of Scrubbing Bubbles and Pledge
scratch-off lottery tickets that won me two whole dollars
                              some other little things

...and a homemade certificate good for two tickets (up to $200) for Matilda! on Broadway!!!!!!!
