  • What's the weirdest business/combination of businesses you've seen?

On my travels this month,I have encountered-

*a builder/funeral director (I guess they can make the coffins for you whilst they're knocking up a wardrobe)

*a combination pet groomer/mortgage broker(I'm guessing it's a family business and she does the animals in one side of the building whilst he tackles figures on the other side of the room

*the 'Gay Dogs Grooming Parlour'(that's not just the name,it actually specifies Grooming for Gay Dogs). Perhaps I've been sheltered, but I cannot recognize how a)you tell if a dog is gay b)how you groom a gay dog differently (put on little pink ribbons?)...

So what bizarre joinings or just weird headscratching 'whoever-thought-there-would-be-a-need-for-that' businesses have you found?

In my late Wife's home town there was a store that was a combo Ace Hardware/Radio Shack.

and the one that both sides would serve most of the same demographics, Firearms and NASCAR collectibles.
Just sliding down the razor blade of life.

I seem to recall a truck stop / strip club / bakery / Arby's on I-35 between Austin and Dallas...

Not that weird, makes sense if you think about it, but the undertaker/antiques dealer used to freak me out a bit.

The BBQ dealer/bait & tackle/bakery is a bit of an odd combination.

The contractor/hardware store I've never understood, why would other contractors want to buy from their competition?

The drive-through smoke and fries shop is also a bit strange. It's only drive through, no store to go into, and they only sell smokes, pop and french fries.

I'm sure there is a lot more around, I just have gotten used to seeing them, so they don't even occur to me as strange anymore

there's always the weirdness of the chinese food place next to a pet shop.

I'll go with us being an office supply store that sold bras at one point.

There's a local furniture chain in my area called Jordan's Furniture. Their stores are downright enormous and most of them have other businesses in their lobbies. TV stores, which make sense. But one also has a roast beef place and an IMAX theater. Another has an IMAX theater, ice cream shop, Jelly Belly store, a Fuddrucker's (burger joint), a free water fountain show and - of all things - a trapeze school.

Until recently there was a small store in my neighbourhood that was a combined children's clothing store AND a photo lab.

There's a candy story in my town that also sells stuffed toys (not a huge leap) and a particular brand of moccasins.
