Over here (or, at least in my city) we also have a chain of Laundromat Cafés (which also is the name of the chainQuoth sms001 View PostThere's also a smallish chain of bar/laundry sites whose name escapes me at the moment. Lot's of TVs too. Brilliant.
)
No TVs, but a nice atmosphere and you can also order a meal while you get your laundry done. A bit pricey, though.A theory states that if anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for, it will be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
Another theory states that this has already happened.

Back in my home town, I used to pass a very funny combination of stores on the way to university or work depending on what the occasion was.
The combo?
On the left: an adult store.
In the middle: a lingerie store.
On the right? A bridal shop.

That was my thought actually.Quoth sms001 View PostSeems like a natural enough progression to me.
For some reason, there are also TWO storefronts (with at least 2-3 other stores between them) labelled "Shanghai Night" in my area. They are on the same road, same area, just with a couple of stores between them.
As for weird combinations, there's a cafe that I've ordered from sometimes (for takeout) which markets itself as a little corner-shop type of place and has some fairly standard items on their menu....right up until you see that they also offer himalayan cuisine with goat thrown somewhere into the mix.
There are also a LOT of kebab joints around these parts that also offer pizza.
a good chunk of them are also halal, so that tends to modify some of their options...for instance, the hawaiian pizza is listed as having "meat", pineapple and cheese.

You just reminded me, we used to have a French bakery in town with all sorts of French pastries that also served beef pho. Supposedly, it was the best pho in town, too.Quoth fireheart View PostAs for weird combinations, there's a cafe that I've ordered from sometimes (for takeout) which markets itself as a little corner-shop type of place and has some fairly standard items on their menu....right up until you see that they also offer himalayan cuisine with goat thrown somewhere into the mix.

It sort of makes weird sense, being that that Vietnam was colonised by the French in the mid 19th Century.Quoth bhskittykatt View PostYou just reminded me, we used to have a French bakery in town with all sorts of French pastries that also served beef pho. Quoth XCashier View PostThat one sounds quite good. Toss your clothes in the wash, sit back and have a nice coffee and pastry while the machines are running.
There is a laundromat/diner in Groton CT that has been there since at least 1990 when we moved up here.Quoth fireheart View PostThat was my thought actually.

I would at least give a try to himalayan food. I was pleasantly surprised by Ethiopean. I now make injira and a few of the different glops, there is a really nice spinach one that has made it into the food rotation. This is a common dinner threesome we like.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

There's a bakery just down the street from my apartment that I'd been meaning to check out. The other day I was walking past them on my way to the convenience store and decided to stop in and take a look. Most of the shop was what you'd expect to see in a bakery, except for the two left-most display cases, which were full of various jewelry and other accessory items. Absolutely nothing on the signs outside indicates they sell this stuff.
Incidentally, the convenience store itself also had a check-cashing booth inside. I hadn't been to that particular store before, and I don't think I will go back. The selection was piss-poor and the whole place just seemed really sketchy."We guard the souls in heaven; we don't horse-trade them!" Samandrial in Supernatural
