Today was a nice and balmy 22C...

Except that both my partner and I wound up sunburnt by the end of the day.

      Shaddup!

*wrapping afghan around her and huddling in front of the fireplace*

It's too damned early to get cold . . . and it's only in the mid 50's now. We're expecting some polar air to come through during the coming week that'll plummet our temps down into the 20's at night and 40's during the day.

Did I ever mention how much I'm hating colder weather the older I get?

            ...and I'm sick.

Yes, despite living on this tropical island paradise, and having enjoyed the powerboat races this week, somehow I started getting ill Friday night, it got worse yesterday, and today I had to stop pretending I was "battling something" and admit that I was, in fact, sick. Sick enough where I seriously considered not going out for the final day of the races, even though my ticket for the catamaran was already paid for. I DID go out, and enjoyed the races, but my original plan of going to the bar afterwards to watch the later (4:00) NFL games went into the trash, and I just went home, crawled into bed, and put on the NFL Red Zone....and promptly went to sleep, which was probably the best thing for me. Woke up, had some awesome split pea soup (one of my favorites), and here I am. Tried to give away one of my next two shifts, but so far, the only person that has attempted to pick either one of them up is the new girl, who they are unlikely to approve workings solo on the main bar.

So yes, while y'all are freezing and I am in the tropics, I am the one who got sick. For the first time in a year and a half, I might add. Ugh. So, call it karma if you want, but still, I'd rather be here than there. Because when I get better, I still won't be freezing my ass off, or shoveling snow, or wearing heavy coats or long pants. Or gloves or scarves or ear muffs. So, bring on the snowballs....if you can get them down here unmelted, I'll be huddled up in bed. *sniffle sniffle*

Join the being sick club. It sucks. Thankfully I felt good enough last night to go out and watch the slaughter. I left at 38 to 0.

The profanity has started. Not too much white shit on the ground, yet, but now we're projected to get 11 inches of it.

Oh, boy, the drive home from work might be "fun", as in I might be lucky to make it into my parking lot, let alone my garage.

Ok, 11 inches, well, that's now on the low side projected. We might get up to 16 inches now from this storm.

I'm the only one working today. I told the person who was supposed to come in at 11 to stay home. The other person who was also scheduled called out pretty early today, and it was no surprise, since her commute is a half hour, or so on a good day.

I also texted Jester a picture of the nasty weather here. Not a snowball, but close enough.

I know we are supposed to get a cold snap here in Connecticut as well. No idea if there is to be snow as well or not, but Rob spent the weekend while I was driving round trip to Greenville NC and back [left 9 pm Friday, gt back 5 pm Sunday. I wanted to take a sledgehammer to my borrowed GPS unit. It routed me into Philadelphia and then into downtown Trenton trying to go from Baltimore to NY en route back to CT ...grrrr!] splitting and stacking firewood. So we now have the stove loaded up, ready to light and a stack of 2 days worth of wood sitting on the hearth and a couple cords of wood sitting under the tarp handy to the back door.

The trifecta of winter hit me since this weekend - snow squalls in the forecast for later in the week; walked into a store with a big poster up ONLY 45 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS; and the highway nearby closed for the first time for most of the morning for a multi-car collision.

Excuse me while I go sulk by the fire for a bit

If anybody wants to pay for both sets of airfare, I'll gladly change places for a week. I'm in a warm place (70's/80's for highs, 50's/60's for lows, all temps in F). If the opportunity presented itself for me to move back to ND, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Especially now since the Sr. resident that was working with my kids' ortho and is very familiar with their bone disease just moved to Fargo....

Well, over 10 inches so far. It's stopped, for now, but we're supposed to get more later tonight. At least the crews are able to catch up on plowing.

The wind blowing what we got around is the fun part now. I'll be so happy to get home from work, and curl up with a Cigar City Maduro, and think of someplace warm.

Ugh. It was ~60F this morning. It was snowing as of noon. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 20F; on Wednesday, 10F. Then back to ~50 by the weekend.

                            Go home, weather. You're drunk.

For the record, I found the picture amusing, just as I do all the video we see down here on tv of that crappy cold weather up north, which reminds most of us here one of the reasons we live here.

Perhaps Key West, since that is where you first tried that wonderful beer, and where the one you'll be drinking came to you from.

Weather like today really makes me appreciate summer an warm places. I can't wait till march to get away from this crap.
