I know I'm on the minor end of this system down here in the Hawkeye State but I still have to say winter can just fuck off. I just drove home in snow/blowing snow. Not the worst drive I've ever had, but I really did not relish it, either. Excuse me while I go make myself some hot cocoa and grumble about how cold it is outside.

I know I bitched about the 15 inches of snow we got here, well, I'm glad I'm not in Gile, Wisconsin

Damn. I know full well what Lake Effect snow can do, being in NorthEastern Ohio, but we don't have anywhere near that amount.

        Yet.

Yeah... I'll take the three or four inches we're supposed to get tomorrow. Holy shit! I knew lake effect snow was bad, but not quite THAT bad!

            Yesterday was extremely warm...around 35-40C. Now it's a nice 28C.

            Still very warm.

The high was 25F today. That usually doesn't happen until the middle of December. I need to get my coat situation taken care of.

Not in my Motor Carrier Road Atlas (next entry after Germantown is Gillett). Where is this town? 4 feet of snow? That would reach the tops of the tires on my truck.

First thing that popped up. I'd heard of it, but couldn't remember where it was. I thought it was on the western side, but guess not.

Thanks. The originally cited article didn't mention neighbouring towns, but yours did. Turns out Gile is the name of a neighbourhood, not a town. Nearby towns are Montreal and Hurley (WI) and Ironwood (MI), near the junction of US2, US51, and WI77. Your article had a (probably) unintentional pun - when asked about this being a state record for snowfall, one authority said they'd have to keep digging.

It was so cold today I wore socks with my birkenstock sandals.

Yes I do that. No I don't apologize.

What's that in Fahrenheit, for those of us who live where that is the predominant scale, and who are not awake enough to do the conversion?
                        Here's a handy conversion website: http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperature.htm

Here, it's 33 F (0.5 C), expected to get down to 26 F (-3.33 C), and dry with a bone-chilling wind. I need to get some good, warm winter boots this year, lack of money or no, because thick socks and sneakers just won't cut it anymore.

Spent yesterday, a day off from work, with my friend from out of town, bicycling around the island from bar to bar, including one beach bar, from which we watched the sunset. All told, not a bad way to spend a mid-November day. Especially when viewed through her eyes, as she lives in New Jersey.

Just thinking about that makes me want to go back. Probably will in March, if all goes well.

My parents live just south of Buffalo. From 6PM Monday to 11AM today, the got between 36 and 40 inches of snow, with another 28-36 inches predicted for today.

Just north of the city, they have less than an inch of accumulation.

                              Welcome to Lake Effect.

Tell your parents I said Hi!

Yup, everything south of Clinton Street got hammered. I live in the northern part of town, we only had about an inch or so. It's icy though. I got to work late because the buses were running so darn slow. Turned out only a handful of folks made it in, it was me and one co-worker alone on the phones all day. So I got an hour OT and a ride home. Was a fairly quiet day because everyone else was busy digging out.

They say there's more snow coming but then next Monday it will be 56 degrees (F). Weird.
