For those of you who celebrate it, of course.
I know it seems like we're barely on this side of Halloween, but Thanksgiving is only 3 weeks away now. My husband and I have decided not to go back to Wisconsin to visit my family, which will mark the first time I haven't been with my parents for Thanksgiving. My husband and I were in Wisconsin together last year and celebrated Thanksgiving with my whole family, although the food wasn't very good (my mom insisted on going out to dinner, which disappointed me, because I offered to do the majority of the cooking if we could stay home, but she refused.) So my husband and I had a small, 2-person homemade Thanksgiving meal a couple days after Thanksgiving itself.
This year, it will be the two of us again, and we will probably invite a few of our friends over in case they don't have anywhere else to go (I know some of them have family in the area, but some of them don't and they may not be able to travel.) So, because I'm slightly OCD and because I love to cook, I'm already planning my menu:
1 small ham (my husband prefers ham over turkey)
1 turkey breast (I prefer turkey over ham)
sausage and apple stuffing
candied sweet potatoes
mashed potatoes & gravy
cream corn
some kind of bread (debating between cornbread and dinner rolls)
at least 2 kinds of pie (debating between pumpkin, apple, and pecan -- might just do all 3 depending on if we have a lot of people coming)
Everything, of course, will be homemade. I don't do store-bought stuff very often, and it would just seem wrong (to me) for Thanksgiving. I found a good-sounding recipe for the stuffing, my mom's candied sweet potato recipe is to die for, and all the guys love my homemade cream corn. The only thing I may not make from scratch is all the pie doughs, especially if I'm making two or three pies.
Soooo, what's everyone else doing?
