So who says you need a gym?
That's the thing - I do have some exercise DVDs I've been meaning to get out, but usually once I get home I'm kinda done. There's too many other things going on and that need done also. Going to the gym I'm there and I make the most of it, know what I mean? If I want to stay dedicated, I'll have to find a way though.

True, I hate the gym, but I when the weather is too crappy to hit the trails..and there aren't many places to walk to safely near my home (my bf's home, in the other hand, is within walking distance to many wonderful things....I gotta move up there )

      • About to head out for my morning walk.

I really really wish I had the money to fix my bike tire, as the weather has been so beautiful in recent mornings. That and buy a bigger/better seat. I'm just large enough that it's uncomfy if I ride it for more than 30-45 minutes. Something to look into later, when I (hopefully) get more funds. <sigh>

Anyhoo, off to walk I go!

        • This is the third morning I've moseyed. I moseyed for 12 minutes. I can't go any faster. It's basically walking at a leisure/turtle pace. (If I overtax my left leg, my legs "lames out", and if I push myself too much, I literally have to drag my leg behind me. )

But I'm happy with what I'm doing. Starting next week, I tihnk I'm going to try water aerobics.

            • IDAR, it doesn't matter how fast/slow you go. At least youre getting out and moving, and your body will become accustomed to that.

I like the idea of water aerobics. Just not so much the idea of other people seeing me in a swimsuit.

As for me: walked 40 minutes this morning, 344 calories burned, max heart rate 160. Then, came home and did about 30 minutes of The Biggest Loser: Weight Loss Yoga DVD, for another 202 calories burned. I'm really starting to love this DVD. I didnt' think I'd like doing yoga, without an instructor to pose me properly, but this one is so detailed, PLUS it really gets your heart rate jumping to burn calories. I wish there was less downward dog and plank, as I can't hold those for long periods of time, maybbe 10 seconds, but that's what the modified pose is for. And hey, it gives me a goal to work towards, getting to the point where I am able to hold them, for even better results. I do love the DVD though. I always feel so limber and relaxed after doing the workout on it. In another week or two, I can maybe add in more time! yay!

              • Lupo,

Thanks for the kind words. My mom laughs when I said I moseyed for 12 minutes! I'm excited and happy for myself.

I might ask my mom if either she or my dad could watch Child Rum for the roughly 1.5 hours I'd be gone for the water aerobics (going to the gym, changing, doing the class, redressing, getting back to get Child Rum). I have a brand new swimsuit I want to wear. And if no one likes the way I look in a bathing suit, well, they'll just have to close their eyes.

Hey, a little bit is better than nothing. If you can, try doing 10 minutes in the morning, and another 10 minutes later in the day...they say you don't have to do it all at once. Excercising in water is great for your joints if that's an issue. Keep it up

I got a card in the mail the other day about the YMCA that's opening in my town in July. Might check it out when it does. Where is the water aerobics class? If it's at a YMCA they may have child care (though I don't know if her autism would be a problem).

                  • BSE - the water aerobics is held at the local county gym. If there's a YMCA in my town, then I haven't heard about it.

The people who work at this gym work for the county government, and I'm not sure what their requirements for the day care is for their workers.

I can't wait to wear my new water shoes & my new swimsuit! Yeah ... I'm weird.

                    • I'm glad you're excited Rummy! And that's a good attitude to have! I hope things work out for care for Child Rum so you can go to a water aerobics class. It is a wonderful feeling knowing what you're doing for yourself, really a rush.

I do yoga. Granted I don't do it perfectly, but I try. And that plus walking, I always feel limber and relaxed after, and more I feel proud and happy that I was able to accomplish something. Even if it is managing to only fall down 5 times doing yoga instead of 6....

All the pros say that if you haven't worked out for a long time, the best thing to do is start off slow. You build up your fitness, reduce the chance of injury, and as a plus, you can set yourself monthly goals e.g. I will walk this mile in X minutes by the end of the month.

You go, IDR! Water aerobics is hella fun too, you'll have a ball! Just be prepared for some stiffness

                              • So I walked (ran a little bit) the other day; today I went again (different park, less running).
                                My legs is rather sore.
I live on the second floor.

Oddly enough, in the past when I've tried to run, my biggest problem was being short of breath and side stitches. I'm not having that problem so much lately, but my legs are hurting, so I'll have to be careful.

Oh, and this morning I actually woke up at 6 and had to pee, then I went back to bed and finished my book I was reading, and was up and out of the house by 8:30. And I'm off work this week! (Didn't even take a nap...)
