Ok. I've lost a total of 31 pounds!! SQUEEE!!!
Not only that, but since the beginning of the year, I've decreased my body fat percentage by 5.5%...
    This is very promising
    That's awesome.

If any of you have Netflix I've recently realized that they have tons of exercise DVDs. Some are even available on instant play. I've done a few dance cardio ones and they were way more enjoyable than running.

    • I got a special offer from Shape magazine a couple weeks ago, 1 year for $16 + two years free, plus special gift of 3 other things (not sure if they're booklets or DVDs; I'm not home to look at the offer). I wasn't going to do it but then I figured what the hell? I like to read magazines on the treadmill...keeps me going longer (I'll just finish this article...) and my Time and Entertainment Weekly subscriptions are about to run out (the only reason I got them in the first place is cuz they were free). I might renew the EW but I haven't decided yet. I figure I should be getting a low-low-price last ditch effort from them soon. Time often requires too much thinking which does not inspire me to keep walking. For the treadmill, I need stuff I don't need to expend too much brain power on, and fitness mags help keep me motivated. I also get Self and Glamour. (And when I'm done with them I pass them on to a guy in my old department to give to his wife, so they don't clutter up my apartment.)

      • I spent 30 minutes today doing the strength training SparkPeople.com recommended for me. When working on my triceps, it was difficult for me to pull myself back up onto the chair. My arms definitely need more work.

              • Did 7 miles total, 3 at work, 4 home...left leg really hurts,

Will tone it down a bit, me thinks.....2.5 miles at work, 3.5 home.

                Weighing in tomorrow......

                • Spent the last 3 days at work hauling, lifting, moving, running and shifting law books and shelving units. Have not worked out, per se, but each day I was sweating like I'd been riding my bike, and for far longer than I would ride my bike. Methinks that counts as exercise. I condensed it all down and figured it as, say, an hour of heavy cleaning each day, as a way to log it.

Doing great on food, though I have a fierce craving for cheesecake and booze right now. Stupid girly nonsense...

                  • So, back in mid-April, when I lost my job, I was up to about 220 lbs, which is a good bit overweight for my height (5'7").

But since then, I've been steadily losing weight because I'm no longer getting fast food for lunch every day like I did when I was working. I'm eating a lot more meals at home, and being more careful about what I eat.

As of today, I'm now down to about 204 lbs!

Still have a ways to go to get to my target weight, but I'm just going to take it slow and steady, best way to take it off and keep it off.

Raps has me wanting an exercise bike now. :P Mayhaps when I have money to afford one plus shipping.
Been thinking about this. They take up a fair amount of space. They're expensive new, unless you can grab one from Freecycle, and a colleague of mine calls them 'clothes hangars' for a reason.

It's quite an investment in time, space, and money for anyone. They're not the be all and end all, but it's a more even burn of your calories, and slightly faster for me as well, considering how long I had to hit the hill to get a similar calorific loss (the going down part was far easier...).

Need to weigh up the pros and cons quite seriously. I've got a fairly large house considering I'm by myself, and though I can easily fit one in if I had a place better sized for one then I'd struggle. I'm also currently trying for a half-hour every day on it.

It also hurts. This thing has a fairly wide seat for a bike, and my muscles are still complaining after a week and a half.

                          • It's actually something I've been considering for some time, actually, just never lived on my own to be able to do it. (Former roomies stated it wouldn't be allowed anywhere in THEIR living spaces, and the room I had when I lived with them couldn't fit it.) I've a reasonably large space for a 1 bedroom apartment, and a walk in closet I don't really use but for clothing, which means it's easy to store there, when not in use, if absolutely necessary.

I'm not looking for a huge farking bike with all the bells and whistles, just a basic one that's easily moveable. Still not going to rush right out and get one, though. Lots and lots of research going into it. I will be weighing pros and cons.

As for hurting...I ride my normal bicycle regularly, and it doesn't ahve a wide seat. I'm very much used to the pain of riding a bike. It's just getting to hot for me to safely go for long periods, especially since I'm still a novice.

Thanks for the input, however. I do appreciate it, and my longwinded rambly reply is really a way of saying thanks. (I'm not exactly making much sense lately. Sorry...)

                              • I almost talked myself out of the gym but I went. Did a half hour on the treadmill, about a mile and a quarter.

I wish I was one of those people who could get up early and get my workout out of the way before my day starts. The last two days I got derailed. Monday because I had to return something to the grocery store (opened a box of cereal to find that the bag inside wasn't completely sealed), and then ended up meeting my mom to shop for a baby shower gift. Yesterday I had to go to my parents' house to pick up a flash drive containing a bunch of stuff from my old computer that my dad missed when he was transferring everything, and of course it was the folder containing stuff that I actually need. Grr.
