  • Happens from time to time. We allow people to delete their own posts. It's a 'soft-delete' so that moderators can still see it. It screws up the post count in the thread. It only really happens when you get to the end of a thread and there's about ten posts on the final page or something like that.

Anyway, weighed myself this morning. 17st 12lb, so that's eleven pounds lost so far.

    • I wasn't going to hit the hill tonight, but I had a rather calorific dessert today. Twice.

My pennance involved three times on the hill, 57 minutes, 739 calories or so. Max pulse rate of 171.

Am intending hitting it four or maybe five times in the morning - I don't start work until the afternoon.

        • I can't remember my count exactly, but I decided to join the gym starting today. Here's my rundown of athleticism:

15 minutes on an exercise bike.
6.5 minutes on the rowing machine.
5 minutes on the elliptical machine (?)
10 minutes cool down on the treadmill.

          So total-36.5 minutes.
Dunno how many calories I burnt, I lost count. Unfortunately, the uni gym has a limit of 20 minutes per machine which sucks.

Wow! Congrats - I've lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks so you're doing really well. (I'm a little jealous. )

            • Fire that's the problem with a lot of gyms. One of mine is like that, 15 minute max! You have to cycle, like you did, to get a decent workout.

Bonus though - it at least has a punching bag. Woo hooo! Fantastic workout and SO therapeutic!!

              • Hit the hill four times this morning. Have to run some errands or I would have considered five.

One hour fifteen, apparently 932 calories. Max heart rate 168. Roughly 2300 calories in three days. Not intending any more until Friday, partly because I need to rest my body and partly because I have a couple of manual days in the warehouse.

                    • Okay I decided to change it up again, for the first two months of my new fitness regime I did 90% cardio and only a few strength training workouts mixed in and while Im seeing good results its time to push to the next level.

I noticed when we went for a walk two days ago I was still stuffed at the end of it and I think thats because while the elliptical is great for cardio, it wont work for muscle training. The elliptical can get me half way there, but I want to push the other 50% from things like push ups/sit ups/ chin ups etc

I'm pushing my workouts from 5 to 6 days a week. 3 cardio days and 3 strength training days. I have a couple of strength training dvds and I'm going to set up a routine and post it on the wall and do that. I did the first workout today, 30 minutes, 15 on arms 15 on thighs.

                      • Strength training is essential from day one and will do more for weight loss than cardio (although both are absolutely necessary).

However, a good routine only takes about 20-30 minutes and hits every part of your body. More than that (time wise) means you're focusing on small areas and giving them specific attention they don't need.

                        Lunges or squats for legs.
Pushups or bench press for chest and tri.
Lat pull, cable row for back and bicep.

Throw in some ab work if the current trend to it makes you feel you have to, but otherwise that's all you need for general functional fitness and weight loss. If you want to shape your body you'll want to do more specific-focus exercises, but if not, it's not necessary to waste time on isolation moves like bicep curls or leg extensions.

                        • Okay I did it

I finally did it!!! I broke 700 calories in 50 minutes!!!!!!!!!

703 and three to be exact and man did I slam through my workout today. My arms, abs and legs are really sore from yesterday but I just pushed through it. Its taken me nearly 2 months of daily workouts to get from 400 calories in 40 minutes to 700 in 50 minutes.

Not only that but I started on non resistance and now Im up to level 5 (the highest level on my Elliptical is 10!

I am SOOOO freaking happy right now!
