  • I spent the morning/afternoon at a water park on Friday. Good leg exercise - playing with/holding up the two kids of my friend in the wave pool - but the 30SPF sunscreen I put on THREE times didn't do and I am burnt to a crisp, especially my back. Wearing a bra is torture and I thought a sports bra would be better- and it's worse. I doubt there will be ANY going to the gym this week and I didn't go to the Zoo (with all it's associated walking around/hills) today like planned either.

This is bad, really bad. I was burnt earlier this summer, but I hadn't put on any sunblock at all. This time I was responsible and my skin is so sensitive it *twitches.* I really want to get back to the gym, dangit!

    • 3.32 miles on the treadmill in 64 minutes. Haven't felt up to doing that much the last few weeks.

(And Lupo - no worries. Nothing in that article was new to me, either. Though it is good to remember that a lot of the "snack" foods out there these days are as many calories as a full meal...)

      • Reyneth it was probably the sun bouncing off the water.

There's reasons why I avoid sun AND large bodies of water.

        • Back on the bike after a rather unhealthy weekend - first day on since Thursday due to chum coming around.

          Thirty minutes, 475 calories.

10 pushups on the ball. My wrists don't liike that much.

            • Haven't actually worked out, per se, in a bit. but I've been putting in a lot of manual labor at work. Tonight I tried a new recipe, a pasta salad with orzo, fresh spinach, tomatoes, feta and a touch of shredded parmesan. SO good. 2 cup serving is only 267 calories. I think I found a new dish to throw in the regular rotation.

tomorrow, I'm trying my hand at a healthier tomato basil tart. I don't have a tart pan, per se. A springform pan should work, right...?

              • Ow. Ow. Ow.

I didn't run for a month. I started up this weekend.

We're, um, kinda having a heat/humidity wave in the north east US. And I've been running in the evening. 45 minutes, 3.35 miles (that's with two stops for water and one to keep from dying).

If this doesn't kick my ass back into shape, nothing will.

The plan is every-other-day this week, then every-day next week. Hopefully I'll be back down to a 26" waist by D*C. Eventual goal is 22", maybe 21" if I'm lucky and my shape still supports it.

                  Breakfast: oatmeal, peach
                  Lunch: shake, apple
Dinner: cottage cheese, apple, raisins (no, not mixed together )

I am no longer in training for Mt Washington, not going next month due to the leg It suck, but now I can just concentrate on getting fit and losing that last few pounds

                      • Headed out for another run now. We'll see if the heat/humidity combo does me in, when combined with a poor night's sleep. Hoping to cut a few minutes off my time, but I don't really see it happening.

I need to go grocery shopping, but I don't think that's going to happen before Friday. I have nothing healthy in the house. I have nothing unhealthy in the house either, but the lack of healthy concerns me.

Though I do still have a couple packs of frozen veggies in the freezer, and I might have something else hiding there.

                        • And I'm back. Did the 3.35 mile loop in 43 minutes, with two breaks for water. I really need to get one of those little bottles that straps onto the wrist.

I was keeping a pretty steady pace of ~10 minutes/mile, but there's a half-mile stretch that is in full sun, and up a miserable hill. Combine that with the 75F/ ~80% humidity of this morning, and I just couldn't do it. Except for that bit, and the two breaks for water, I managed to run the whole thing.

I'm starting to think that if I keep the momentum going, I'll be able to run the entire loop with no difficulty. But I really need that water bottle. Guess it's off to the sports stores this weekend.

                          • I picked something up the other week - camelbak or camelpak - can't remember which.

                            Ah, yes.

Since I bought it, I managed to knacker my knee, so I'm not using it out on the road etc. However, I'm seriously considering it for use on my exercise bike. Bite the tube and suck from the bladder in the backpack (will probably have this to one side when on the bike to allow better heat dissipation).

Worth looking at as an option.
