I like the Japanese Lolita culture and all it's sub-cultures (Gothic Lolita, Black Lolita, White Lolita, Charming Lolita), but their clothes are SO expensive. I walked into a Baby, The Stars Shine Bright shop with a friend who does do Lolita and nearly fainted at some of the prices for these dresses and accessories! Of course I'm also a tightwad with my money. And the Black Peace Now shop for the Goths and Punks who aren't Lolita are the same. But I do like the Punk/Goth culture in Japan. They have super cute clothes too!

And Japan... high school girl short skirt capital of the world. Bit of advice for ya'll, if you go to Japan and start walking upstairs somewhere with high school girls around... don't look up. And if you come in winter, don't be surprised to see girls still wearing shorty short shorts with thigh high stockings and knee high boots. Some of Japan's fashion makes me want to

Not so popular now, but I have seen many like this. Can you imagine if it had come to America?

I got 3 Lolita dresses from a place called White Peacock. Light on the frills, but reasonably priced.

@ganguro: Wow... manga doesn't NEARLY show how garish, clownish, and all around EEK those girls are.

All this talk about prostitots, and no one has mentioned Club Libby Lu.

Also, for those that don't know, the term "Lolita" comes from a novel about a pedophile and his obsession with a 12-year-old girl (Wikipedia Link), and the common usage of the term is to describe a "sexually precocious young girl" that's way too young to even be legitimately called Jail Bait.[/SIZE]
And prior to 1955, when the above mentioned book came out, Lolita was Don Diego's girl friend in the original Zorro stories that came out in 1919.

I don't get it either. I've seen a few Libby Lu mall stores, and it just looks like Limited Too or Claire's.

The impression I have of Club Libby Lu is all these very young girls dressing up with makeup and clothes that seem to be a big step in the direction of kiddy beauty pageants, which remind me of prostitots. I have had no direct experience with the store other than walking past it.

That makes sense now, recalling some of the stuff I've seen in LT. Claire's is more "sedate" in that respect, although some of their jewelry does make me go at times.

Heh. To think my mom thought she had problems because I picked out Halloween costumes based solely on what weapons I got to carry. I'm going to have to show her some of those costumes some day when I don't have to stick around for the inevitable tirade on stupidity that follows.

Edit: Ye gods I think I may have seen the cutest baby costume evar!
