The current game is saved with the aliens about 15 seconds away from landing at my base. Dunno what I'm gonna do. I know I could get a saved game editor and give my soldiers psi abilities, but I hate cheating.

Fight it out! Leave lots of time for reaction shots, and try to stay out of direct line of sight when you end turn. Move all your guys a couple of spaces after an alien has seen them, as they target the spot you were in when they saw you last if they can't see you directly. Usually, you won't lose too many if you move quickly.

Also, use your tanks and hovers to engage so your soldiers aren't seen as often. Large launchers can level whole areas before they even get near you. Also, during base invasions, aliens start in hangers and the elevator. Engage accordingly.

I still haven't finished an entire game of X-Com.

I started another game about 3 weeks ago. I was doing good (I thought), doing most of the essential research and had about $19mil. I was just waiting for my ultimate space craft to be built.

Unfortunately the aliens were fed up with my antics and sent a very large battleship to my base filled with ETHEREALS.

I have no Psi abilities of any kind so I'm fucked.

I have obtained this Borderlands ( PC ) you people have spoke off and it is amusing me. But it really seems to beg for online co-op.

I have also completed Bioshock 2 and have been utterly punched in the parental unit as a result.

I'm a huge gamer, but I still have a place in my heart for the original X-Com/UFO game. Still play it several times a week, thanks to Steam offering it for cheap.

My X-Box online play depends on what's out at the time. I need to get back to Borderlands, but there's so much stuff out soon.

I'll probably be getting online with PS3 when White Knight Cronicles hits, though.

GK - I played FPS on PC and xbox (original) before Halo - I just enjoy FPS and a decent (I didn't say original ) storyline. My mates and I mainly use Halo for the multiplayer. Well .... that and clearing rooms ala personal plasma grenade conveyance. Golden eye is a classic. Heck. I've used to still have a Sega Mastersystem. My aunt has an Atari at her house.

Goldeneye! I have a very strong love/hate relationship with that game. Despite the hours and hours I spent with it....never could get past the jungle. But multiplayer mode FTW. I have the N64 with me again....perhaps I should give it another go.

Anyone interested in strategy games, like SimCity 4, the Civilization series, etc.?

I haven't played SimCity for a long time, I lost interest after SC2000.
However, I'm still playing the original Civilization to this day. Had it on a floppy disk many years ago & currently running it in XP mode on a win 7 machine

Much prefer the older ones to the more recent

I <3 older strategy games for my netbook since it easily runs them and they're great for the quiet hours at work. All of the city builders series ( Caesar, Pharaoh, Zeus, Emperor ) are great and having a netbook away from home gives me an excuse to play them. Whereas at home I'm staring at a demigod of a machine with wide screen HD, its hard to justify playing a game older then my nieces on it. -.-

Simcity 3 runs great on it, but Civ 3 I can't get running ( amongst other 2d strategy ). Its too bitchy about resolution and netbooks have odd screen resolutions.
