Bad news is I haven't lost weight except for the usual five I've been fluctuating lately.

The good news is I haven't gained weight except for the usual five I've been fluctuating.
I worry about how I look, not what I weigh. 125lbs of skinny-fat doesn't look as good as 125lbs of lean muscle, you know?

Enough with the cardio! Weight lifting broad checking in. All sets are with a barbell

    Squats 3x5 70lbs, 90lbs, 100lbs
Deadlifts 1x5 (recommended as such for some reason) 20lbs, 40lbs
    Bench press 3x5 20lbs, 2x5 40lbs (fail)
    Curls 3x5 20lbs, 30lbs 2x5 40lbs (fail)

Upper body strength is suck I went easy on squats today since apparently I might be working 10-6 tonight. My Man Calves and Post Workout Meal thank you for your time.

edit: oh and i did 5 minutes of treadmill at 3mph on a 3.0 incline or whatever for a warmup.

    • Wow, does anyone else realize that this Thursday will mark the 4TH ANNIVERSARY of this thread? That's right, this thread was started on July 15, 2006 and is still going strong. That has got to be some sort of CS record!

Coincidentally, I started a diet/exercise plan 3 weeks ago, so I thought now is the perfect time to share my thoughts:

Find time to exercise. I swim 3x a week at the gym. Also, whenever possible, I walk wherever I have to go and take the stairs instead of the elevator. That is what works for me...find what works for you.

Diets don't work. Screw the protein shakes and the "point cards" and the celebrity diets that make you measure food in ounces. Do you plan on living like that for the rest of your life? If you want to lose the the weight and keep it off you need to permanently change your eating habits; in order to do that, you need to replace bad habits with good habits.

Example: I've replaced my fatty snacks with fruits and vegetables. I've also learned to drink more water (sometimes 'hunger pains' are actually dehydration). It was difficult at first, and still is, but if you do it often enough, it eventually becomes a habit.

I've taken a cue from the Europeans and learned to enjoy eating; too often we just shovel food in our mouths while we're doing something else (reading, surfing the internet, watching TV). Make time to actually sit and enjoy your food. Learn to appreciate it; eating is suposed to be a pleasure, not a chore

Having lived in Japan for awhile I've also learned to enjoy smaller portions. In America serving sizes keep getting bigger and bigger, and the fact is we don't need that much food in one sitting. When I came home for Christmas after 18 months in Japan, I found I could only finish about half my meal in a restaurant; I was eating half of what I used to and was still satisfied. If you out to eat, don't feel obligated to "clean your plate." Take it home for next day's lunch or dinner.

Sweets are not the enemy. If you really love sweets like I do you don't have to deprive yourself entirely; I've found that enjoying sweets once a day, every day is fine. Just don't go nuts.

If you fall off the wagon, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and jump back on; it's the only way you'll learn to ride. Don't give up just because you had a bad day or week. Change takes time. Breaking old habits and establishing new habits takes time. Hang in there! Trust me, it's worth it in the long run.

You leave protein shakes out of this, missy! No, but seriously, they're not bad as a supplement (not a meal replacement) if you lift weights like i do. If you're using it as a replacement for food, then yeah, they're bad. Greek yogurt with honey is awesome for replacing sweets/fatty snacks.

They aren't too pricy as far as gym equipment goes, you could try to find one off ebay or something.

Try ebay, or try your local freecycle group in February - loads available about that time of year. Also available at other times as well.
          Thanks for the suggestions!!!!!

          • Every day is gym day. Today was a shorty. I might start doing six am swims. I bought a bathing suit and.. well theres a reason I'm swimming at six am and not when I go to work out.

            5 minutes @ 5.0 incline, 3mph .25 miles
            Squats 2x5 90lbs, 3x5 100lbs
            Curls 1x5 30lbs, 3x5 40lbs (meh)
            Deadlifts 1x5 20lbs, 40lbs, 50lbs

Didn't feel like doing anything else. For my weight lifters: I was in the gym today and some personal trainer had a girl doing.. what i can best describe as "inverted squats." He put a bench under her, then had her squat the bar, but instead of ass out, it looked like she was going to sit on a chair. It looked ridiculous and seemed like itd be an easy way to hurt yourself. Any idea what this was? The girl has obviously never lifted before, so I don't want her to hurt herself because of bad advice and then dismiss weights all together.

            • Did the gym yesterday: 560 cals, plus weight in morning and night

Today: Gym with another 560 cals.

Tomorrow: will do weight and more gym

              Thurs: will do gym.

Lost some of the NH weight

(usually at the gym I'm on the tread mill @15% incline....starting at 3.8 for 30 mins, then increase to 4.0 for 15, then 4.2 for the remaining 15....of course, if I am tired or sore, I take it easier)

              • I'm still gymming & swimming, but seeing how my knee has decided to play up again, how much & how long depends on the day as it were. Typical as I've been planning some hill walking for this summer. Its the first time I've felt I've had enough energy to do it.

Saw my doc yesterday & she's referring me back to the physiotherapist (again) as well as for a ruck of blood tests for something else!

As of last Wednesday I have lost a total of 2 stone 8 pounds, its weigh in day today though
                Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

                • Thirty five minutes, interrupted by a surprised lass delivering a parcel (sure she's seen worse). 510 calories - a bit down on normal, but the heart rate never seemed to get up there. Usually about the 150 mark instead of the 165 I usually do.

                  • Started physio today. Hopefully this will get the foot to the point where I can do real exercise again. I just need to put up with the pain for the next while. (And then I will get my bike back!)

                    • I hate when my desire to eat healthy is beaten back by free food:

                      Muffin for breakfast

Bagel w/ cream cheese for lunch

Cold Stone ice cream for snack....I was trying to say "no," but realised I can save the snack I brought for tomorrow, thus saving some $$$

At least it'll be another 560 cal gym day!

                      • I haven't lost anything, and have gained !!!

But I have a free weight set...my baby!!
My left arm is so much stronger now.

And I walked about 1/2 mile with him in stroller to store, and back. Did pretty good.

                          Treadmill for 62 mins: 15% incline.....30 mins at 3.8, 15 mins at 4.0, 10 mins at 4.2, 5 min at 4.4 (the cool down for 2 mins)

Did my morning weights, and my post-gym weights. My biceps are looking good, the triceps...not so much

What in the world did you eat for dinner. Theoretically, you should be eating five or six 300-400 calories meals per day.
